Review

If you're on the look-out for unashamedly joyous, life-affirming reworks, re-edits and mash-ups, you could do worse than investigate the ample collaborative back catalogue of Ministry of Funk and Disco Incorporated on the South American Grooves label - not to mention this album-length excursion from the shadowy party-starters. This time round, they've focused on adding their chunky house grooves and 21st century dancefloor nous to classic funk and soul cuts including gems by Bill Withers ('Lovely Day'), Barry White ('Black Soul') and James Brown ('Soul Brother'). Highlights include the deep house soul of 'Rolling Stone', the Aretha-goes-gospel house flex of 'Soul Prayer' and the gorgeous, summer festival-ready 'What's Going On' (a revision of what sounds like a cover of one of Marvin Gaye's greatest songs).
