Has Monoloc created a modern techno version of the torch song? Over a stepping rhythm, concrete beats and sludgy claps, German producer Sascha Borchardt introduces a vocal so soulful and beautiful it invites comparisons to the tones of the late, great Aaron Carl. The remixes are of a similarly high quality; Skudge's 'Try Again' version is a warm, slinky affair, its shiny Motor City synths fused with a jacking, insistent rhythm. Monoloc himself also provides an impressive edit; the drums are rock hard - and straighter than before - while the beautiful vocal is covered in a swathe of bleak, Basic Channel-style chords.Get new release alerts
