Review

The multi-talented Nathan Fake reconstructs three tracks that influenced him during his formative years. As the title suggests, he does so entirely from memory. First up is Industry Standard's late 90s garage track "What You Want". In the UK producer's hands, it is transformed into a dreamy techno track powered by snappy percussion. Slam's "Positive Education" is a natural fit for Fake's sound design, with the classic techno track's signature build integrated into rolling snares and a driving rhythm. Few artists would have the chops to cover Orbital, but Fake reworks "Attached" from the late 90s Peel Sessions. Deploying a frazzled bass and stepping drums, he effortlessly re-imagines the Hartnolls' ambient techno.
