The Nils Frahm-fronted Nonkeen have taken the R&S fanbase by surprise thanks to their debut album The Gamble. While the imprint has been heavily associated with contemporary techno and driving post-dubstep over the last five years, Nonkeen seems like a breath of fresh air, and also the perfect way to meander into different sorts of sounds and genres. "Animal Farm" and "Chasing God Through Palmyra" are taken from the debut album for easier DJ playback; the former is a murky, dubbed-out lo-fi drum jam that has more in common with African Head Charge than Gilles Peterson, and the latter carries that same kind of jab-ridden spirit through to a more stable strain of pseudo 4/4 that'll work wonders in the midst of a wide-eyed house set. A truly recommended piece of work from the label.
