Review

Although it has been releasing music since the mid-90s, Icelandic label Thule prioritises quality over quantity - and Hverfisgata is the embodiment of this approach. The debut album from NonniMal, who to date has only had a handful of releases, it uses Thule's signature dub techno sound as the basis to explore a wide palette of music. From the gentle, spacey groove on the title track to the rumbling break beats of "Klapparst?gur" into the linear, Chain Reaction style rhythm of "Argintaeta" and the skeletal but reflective "?sold" it's a diverse, broad-ranging work that is testament to Thule's less-is-more aesthetic.
