As Like This shows, NYRA has clearly been schooled in two different sounds. On the title track, the sound of raw tribal house is audible, as heavy beats shuffle and skip, underpinning an insistent vocal sample. There is a radically different approach on "M for Mother"; there, a chugging, dubby groove, scuffled and imperfect is the dominant sound. It's straight from the Basic Channel dub techno textbook. Finally, the 'Sven Adoring Mother' take on the same track is also inspired by a different sound. In this instance, it's the jazzy keys and rasping percussion of 90s deep house that provides the inspiration.
