J Kriv first reworked Oscar Sulley and the Uhuru Dance Band's 'Bukom Mashie', a much-loved big band highlife workout from the 1970s, almost a decade ago. Then, he re-edited it; this time round, he's delivered a trio of peak-time ready remixes. There's a '7" Mash' version in which the Razor N Tape co-founder underpins the original mix's heady horns, gravelly lead vocals and infectious highlife groove with a stomping beat, but it's the two 'Acid Dub' versions - and particularly the extended offering - that really hit home hard. J Kriv dances through elongated sections of lightly tooled-up highlife-disco before unleashing waves of psychedelic, mind-mangling acid lines and extended flute solos.
