Following last year?s three-way collaboration with Martin Denev and Robert Owens, Pete Herbert goes it alone on his first solo single since 2016. Of the two original Herbert productions on show, it?s the sparkling, Rimini-in-the-mid-?80s vibe of ?Expresso? ? think druggy, Italo-disco style arpeggio bass, warehouse-friendly synth riffs and mind-altering drum machine cowbells ? that?s really floating our boat. That said, the guitar-flecked cheeriness of Balearic disco workout ?No Big Thing?, which contains some killer dream house style piano solos, is also alluring. Bottin emphasizes the track?s dreamier elements on a loved-up electro revision just crying out for sunset plays, while Yam Who throws the kitchen sink at ?Expresso? with predictably impressive results.
