Review

Peter Van Hoesen has been making forward-facing techno for the best part of two decades, and Westbrook Bay is the latest. worthy addition to his catalogue. From the glitchy, moody soundscapes on the title track, Van Hoesen moves into the more familiar warehouse sound he is known for on the lithe "Allocators". "Leaning" is of a similar nature, with snappy percussion and sub-aquatic sound effects underpinned by deft drum programming, while "Consider The Source" sees him move towards a more peak-time approach, led by steely rhythms. However, the experimental approach continues on "Waving Not Drowning", with Van Hoesen dropping a dark, dense break beat track.
