Monolith is Kraftek's annual state of the nation techno compilation and Volume 2 focuses on tough, trippy techno. Oscar Escapa's "Molecule" is a heavy, traced out affair, led by pounding kicks and psychedelic electronic surges, while on SAMA's "The Beholder" a throbbing groove underpins epic melodic flourishes that have echoes of 90s German trance. A similar, albeit somewhat darker aesthetic is audible on the buzz-saw bass and growling riffs of Joyhauser's "Galaxy Phase". However, this compilation isn't solely inspired by retro sources: The YellowHeads "8 Bits" is a powerful slice of rugged, bass-heavy techno and Martin Lacroix and Oscar Escapa's "Poison" bears the raw, hollowed out drums of bass artists like Martyn.
