Review

Some three years after his last album dropped, Purple Disco Machine has finally got round to recording a new set - and it's packed to the rafters with eye-catching guest vocalists and studio collaborations. 'Paradise', then, is a genuinely 'big release' - an all-star nu-disco delight packed to the rafters with colourful, dancefloor-friendly workouts that variously doff a cap to Italo-disco, Daft Punk, boogie and West Coast synth-funk. It begins with a fizzing Metronomy collaboration ('WTP') and ends with the hard-wired, Patrick Cowley-esque Hi-NRG heaviness of 'Die Machine' (with Friedrich Lichtenstein); in between, you'll variously find Chic-inspired joy ('Honey Boy', made with Benjamin Ingrosso, Nile Rodgers and Shenesea), soaring, Jake Shears-sporting Italo revivalism ('Dirty Pleasures'), EDM-disco (Duke Dumont/Nothing But Theievs hook-up 'Nothing On My Mind') and killer Chromeo collab 'Heartbreaker'.
