Cycle is the first release on new label World Talk, and as debuts go, it's an impressive one. Reless ventures back to the 90s on the title track without forfeiting a contemporary feeling; queasy acid lines coalesce with punishing subs and rolling snares to create a panning, percussive workout that could be Richie Hawtin's "Bang Da Box" as interpreted by A Made Up Sound. "Chain" meanwhile sees Reless deliver a purely modern day sound; the filters rage and again the sound of the 303 is never far away, but the groove is more linear and streamlined. Clearly though, there is no escaping the raw 90s sound and Shlammo's take on "Cycle" has parallels with the tough, drum-heavy classic, "Believer", by Joey Beltram
