As its title suggests, Robert Hood wrote the blueprint for minimal techno, and this pioneering approach is evident throughout his latest EP. "Chroma Light" is vintage Hood, with the Detroit innovator fusing a looped organ riff with a sleek, linear rhythm. "The Majestic (Deeper Edit)" leans more towards Hood's Floorplan style, as incessant percussion powers a dynamic rhythm track. Meanwhile, on the original version of "The Majestic", he deploys dramatic chord sequences with razor-sharp hi hats and vocal snippets to create a more menacing sound. Rounding off this fine, harder-edged release is "Ultrasonic Room", which teems with jittery percussion and ominous, swirling synths.
