Review
You might know Chris Douglas aka Rook Vallade from his Dalglish alias - a moniker which he used for one of our favourite albums on PAN - but the producer has been making music since the turn of the millennium. The only problem is that the material is hard to come by, and not much of it has been re-compiled over the years. Enter Touchin Bass, an ambitious label with an ear for the best gear. This collection of DATs from the years 92-2000 is sublime, a real breath of fresh air, especially given the fact that they've been made over twenty years ago. This is one of the LPs of the week for us; there's little we're not into on here, and all of Vallade's tracks sound way ahead of their time. If we want to compare him to a contemporary producer, then someone like Beau Wanzer sounds appropriate, except that this guy's sonic constructions have an even broader reach, spanning thing like industrial and even dubstep before there was such a thing.
