Review

Stockholm-based synthesizer fetishists Sand Circles have yet to prick the attention of most experimental-loving connoisseurs, but you get the impression that may well change very soon. Motor City, their debut full-length, originally appeared on cassette earlier this year and now gets a digital release for the first time. If you're into vintage synthesizers, vaguely Balearic synth-pop, deep Italo and Tangerine Dream-ish synth-prog, it's well worth further investigation. From the atmospheric melodies and weary grooves of the title track to the reverb-laden goodness of "Innercity Haze" and Italians Do It Better-ish "Endless Nights", Motor City has a quiet, contemplative, almost melancholic feel that's impossible to ignore.
