Review

The work of Kris Needs and Wonder under their Secret Knowledge guise, "Sugar Daddy" was one of the standout moments of early 90s UK progressive house. On the original version, those busy chants, whooshing sound effects and Wonder's pre-orgasmic mutterings still get spines tingling, nearly 25 years later. The same can be said of the legendary "Out Of Our Brains On The 5.15 mix". Re-mastered for this re-issue, its jittery piano keys and rolling drums exude a similar energy to Hardfloor's reshape of Mory Kante's "Yeke Yeke". Label owner Jon Digweed and his long-term collaborator Nick Muir provide a new remix and treat the original respectfully, setting Wonder's wailing vocal to a deep, pulsing groove.
