This debut set from Shadowlust further qualifies the notion that L.I.E.S. use the album format to satisfy Ron Morelli's more esoteric whims. Trust In Pain sees label regular Marquis 'Svengalisghost' Cooper teaming up with Opal Tapes artist Lili '51717' Schulder for an eight-track journey through foreboding, industrial soundscapes. Whereas Cooper's solo work has been characterised by a sense of reckless abandon and improvisation, Shadowlust feels more about restraint and the tensile energy that emerges when Schulder's disguised vocals are given the space to filter out. There's little in the way of dancefloor concession here, instead Trust In Pain feels like a compelling exercise in contemporary avant garde electronics.
