Combining the pump and grind of Chicago ghetto house with the glitchy, cut-up sensibilities of modern techniques, mysterious French producer Sirus Hood stands out from the crowd. On his latest release, the title track is the most functional, with churning filters propelling a jacking, stepping rhythm. "What's Up" has more visible traces of the ghetto, with its vocal intoning 'what's up' atop siren riffs aplenty and even some witchdoctor-style whoops. Neither can prepare the listener for the suggestive 'Booty Noize' and 'Magic Stick'. The former fuses clicky percussion and surging chords with a vocal sample about 'a big booty', while the latter goes even dirtier with a primal rhythm and a man talking about how an unnamed girl 'loves the magic stick'. Nasty.
