Review

Bethany De Moss breaks her two-year production silence with this excellent release on Trolldans. She may be best known for tough, Birmingham-influenced techno, but Mirage is the polar opposite. The title track sets the tone for the release with its spaced out melodies and slow, under 120bpm groove. "Skin" sees the US DJ/producer drop the tempo farther, with doubled up beats underpinning spooky, atmospheric textures. De Moss' connection to Downwards is audible on "Spessartine", where creaky sounds and disturbing vocal samples are audible, but in the main, this is a reflective release, and even the spindly rhythms on Lakker's reshape of "Mirage" can't alter the prevailing mood.
