Review

Although his brief appearance for Scucci Manucci was received well by our team of bass-heads here at HQ, we haven't heard much from newcomer Skwirl up to this point. This tactical move on the fiery little Skrufix imprint couldn't have come at a better time; we've only just realised that peeps like EDMX are releasing on this catalogue, so this gets an immediate thumbs up from us. After listening to these tunes, however, we're gonna have to raise some more thumbs. The deluge of hybrid goodness begins with "Attache Case", a tune that lingers between broken beat, techno, breakbeat, and something utterly unplaceable. "Prenzlauer Birds" is clearly an ode to Berlin's dub-techno sound, with those heartical synths shifting in and out of nutty, break-driven drum patterns, whereas "Two Finger Exercise" reinvents the tech house amalgam by breaking the groove apart and adding a little two-step swagger to the picture.
