Sona Vabos delivers three radically different but equally effective interpretations of house music on Strings. "Hotblade" is the deepest cut of all, its chugging beats supporting plaintive keys and sensuous string swoops leading into dramatic breakdowns. "Black Music Blues" is more upfront, with a surging electronic bassline dominating and a wired, deranged clarinet solo ensuring that the track is nothing if not infectious. However, the standout track is "Sizzler". Like an update of Basement Jaxx's classic "Jump & Shout", Vabos combines a ragga bassline with a toasting MC for a good-time groove. But it isn't all just party vibes and the drop in tempo for the reggae shanty break downs shows that Vabos is an intelligent producer.Get new release alerts
