You know those EPs that just hit the spot, no matter what mood you're in? Well, the latest offering from Mexican duo Soul Of Hex is one of those. Fresh off releasing bangers on Underground Resistance and the upcoming Kilometro 4.5 compilation, these guys are clearly operating at the top of their game - and the "Constellation EP" is the latest proof. Things start off with a real stomper in "Face Down." The track lays down a funky, earthy bassline that grabs you right from the jump, backed by some dub-tinged percussion that keeps the groove moving. Then we get to the title cut, "Constellation," and the vibe takes a turn towards the soulful and uplifting. The tempo picks up, the keys take centre stage, and we get lush vocal harmonies from Javonntte. "Dimension Spell" is where things really start to get funky. We've got these beefy guitar riffs, a bass line that just won't quit, and synth pads that reach for the heavens. It's a heady, euphoric blend of disco-influenced house that hits you right in the heart. Finally, we land on "Into The Night," which keeps the grooves rolling with a subtler, more understated vibe. It's all about that hypnotic, shape-shifting rhythm section - the drums that seem to shift and morph with every bar, the bassline that just won't let go. And layered atop that, we've got those jabbing Rhodes chords and an addictive vocal sample that stick in your head long after the track is over. Hex-cellent!
