Of all the German house producers, Michel Baumann aka Soulphiction is the most heavily influenced by American artists. You can hear it at every bar on this release. Although "Ann Arbor" starts the release unexpectedly with a horror soundtrack and ghoulish vocal rambling on about the US town, the track quickly veers into the raw, loopy sound that has become Baumann's signature. From there on in, the release veers from the jazzy "Bass Jam" and the techno-oriented filtered groove of "With Attitude" into the sleazy groove of "Riot Party" and the disco-led "Detox". It's ideal for fans of Omar S, KDJ and Rick Wade.
