There is a glut of mediocre nu-disco doing the rounds, but South West Seven rise above it on Waffles. The title track is as reminiscent of the golden days of indie dance as the disco new school as a baggy - remember that? - yet chunky guitar riff looms large over a low-slung groove. By contrast, "Bustin" is inspired more directly by classic 70s disco as a string-soaked groove and a cheeky 'keep bustin'' vocal snippet make for a real party tune. The remix of "Waffles" is also inspired by a distinct sound and the rolling bass and lurching bass could have come from that early noughties tech-house hotbed Croydon.
