Review
Since debuting in 2017, Stephen Richards has notched up releases on many of the nu-disco and re-edit scene's most checked imprints. Here he makes his bow on another, Fingerman's Hot Digits music. The three Richards originals on offer sound like hybrid productions, where his original beats and instrumentation are joined by samples from vintage disco and soul cuts. There's much to admire, from the mid-tempo, break-driven nu-disco colour of 'Winter Sunshine', where mazy synth sounds, dewy-eyed female vocal samples and laidback disco guitars catch the ear, to the Italian disco-meets-Italo-disco squelch of 'Gynoid' and the layered nu-disco warmth of 'Beat Don't Stop'. Chewy Rubs reworks 'Winter Sunshine', beefing it up and pitching it up to house-tempo while utilising his favourite bits of Richards' original mix.Get new release alerts
