Review

With releases on seminal labels like Artless and Subwax, Stojche's fusion of deep house and Detroit techno is impressive - and Metaphor is no exception. Spanning four tracks, it sees him flit between styles. "Counterpunch" is based on a dubbed-out groove that bristles with intensity thanks to the use of firing hi-hats. "Chordal Tribe" sees Stojche go deeper, as hypnotic chords are fused with a rolling rhythm. On "Signal Drive", he further explores that approach, with emotive strings and tribal drums recalling vintage Vince Watson. The title track is tougher; centred on pounding kicks and piledriving snares, it brings Metaphor to a heady climax.
