Review

Bass Junkie has been running Battle Trax for a quarter century, and while it's not the most prolific label - Assimilate This is its first outing in four years - this EP shows that when it comes to electro, few imprints do it better. This split release spans a gamut of styles, from the old school Miami electro sound of "Under The Radar" from Mandroid and Bass Junkie's Sub Sonic Force project to the wonderfully mysterious "We Are Obsolete" from Obsolete Robotics and Matt Whitehead's complex "Hologram Principle". It also achieves that rare feat that most labels fall short on, and delivers a great remix of a heritage act. In this instance, it's label boss Bass Junkie turning in a fine take on World Class Wreckin' Cru member Cli-N-Tel's eternal hip-hop/electro jam, "2030".
