Review

Critical are smashing the dickens out of 2015, punching out premium EP after premium EP. Next up: Subtension. Following appearances on all the right labels - Renegade Hardware, Invisible, Samurai, Med School, Dutty Audio - here he steps up to Critical with his first full EP. Tearing through the sub-genres like bog roll, each cut explores D&B's many corners deftly; from the early Bingo-beats style bounce of "What Do You Want" to the all-out, balls-out halftempo rippage of "Camden Hype" via the future beats style vocal textures and Om Unit style slo-mo groove of "Fairlady", Subtension has painted a clear picture of drum & bass in 2015... And his bold intentions on the future. Essential.
