Review

First recorded and released in 1983, Sun Palace's 'Rude Movements' is rightly revered as a genuine jazz-funk classic - a deep, spiritual gem whose mix of bubbly drum machine percussion, deep chords and liquid solos still sounds like an early blueprint for what would later become deep house. For that reason, it seems fitting that these new remixes of the track come from two bona house legends. Moodymann excels himself on his version, which adds a wealth of complimentary new solos (flute, piano etc) to a subtly beefed-up tweak of the track's killer groove. Kenny Dope delivers a more revolutionary rework which wraps the track's mazy synth solos, heady chords and toasty bass around crunchy, loose-limbed jazz breaks. It's magical, just like Sun Palace's '83 original mix.
