A quartet with tango in their blood, Los Quarto de la Sala have been going since 2003 yet have waited until now to collect their finest South American melodies on this, their debut album. Comprising accordion, guitar, clarinet and saxophone, the group (whose name translates as "The Quartet From Space") are adept at shifting between styles and moods effortlessly. Listen to "Unland" for example and you'll hear swings from slow, melancholy soloing to galloping, full-group rhythms. Pitched somewhere between experimental jazz and Ravel, this will offer a refreshing and heart-warming alternative perspective on tango rhythms and tropes.
