Three proper raw, rump-shaking funkers here from Sound Exhibitions regular The Broker, who this time is flying solo, without his usual partner-in-crime Funk Reverse. 'Some People' works funk guitar chops, mournful brass, Theremin-like sounds and a one-line vocal that sounds very like The Streets, though we wouldn't stake our lives on it. More funk geetar graces 'The Future Is Funk', accompanied by a stuttering breakbeat, scratches, melancholy woodwinds and, most importantly, as fine a fat, liquid funk bassline as you'll hear all month, while 'Tribal City' is a percussive affair with echoing guitar chords, rap vocal cut-ups and an overall soundtrack-like feel.
