Review

Having put out something close to twenty 45s, toured Europe extensively and already dropped one successful album, German deep funk freaks The Mighty Mocambos return with this, their second excellent LP instalment. Led by London-based singer Gizelle Smith, the band are stuffed to the gills with excellent brass players and copious percussionists to achieve that big '70s Afro/Latin sound (as on opener "Calling The Shots"). On top of that, hip hop's founding father Afrika Bambaataa is present and correct on a couple of tunes, while the slow Franco-funk of "Physique" (featuring Parisian singer Caroline Lacaze) might just be out favourite on this excellent album.
