Scotland's Soup Dragons hit the mainstream in 1990 with their cover of the Rolling Stones' "I'm Free". The Glaswegian four-piece were synonymous with the emerging 'Madchester' sounds of the time and the track reached almost anthemic proportions. These modern perspectives by nu-disco giants Midnight Riot still do the song justice: label staples Yam Who? team up with Alan Dixon Remix for a gospel like remix that reaches near spiritual moments, then all the Riot Allstars team up for a sultry and dubby nu-disco rendition until the man himself - Hifi Sean aka Soup Dragon's frontman Sean Dickson - wraps it up with his driving funky house makeover which is superb.
