Mexican label Furious Mandrill describe their musical remit as "tropical disco and Afrodisiac funk". That gives you a good idea what to expect from this latest installment in the 'Mandrill Cuts' series, which features two tracks from Puebla-based producers Leo Cid and Abraham Barrett, better known as The Velvet Stripes. 'High Disco' reworks 'Disco Hi-Life', a 1979 cut from Nigerian disco/Afrobeat star Orlando Julius; that would suggest 'Mi Nena', with its blend of Latin, Afro and disco influences, is also a re-edit, though what it's a re-edit of, this writer sadly couldn't tell you!
