Paper Recordings' rag-tag bunch of "renegades, outliers and mercenaries" assembles once more for the fifth edition of the label's ongoing Wild Army series of EPs. Kennedy and Matt Prehn lead the line with 'Le Freak', a hazy-but-crunchy chunk of woozy disco-house hypnotism, before J Kara melds together vintage Larry Heard bass, spacey synths, sustained organ chords and crispy broken house beats on 'El Salvador'. Pictotropico successfully dips the tempo on the squelchy and chugging 'Front Tears' (look out for the subtle nods towards a turn-of-the-80s Peter Gabriel classic), R-04 and Mike Wyatt pay tribute to piano-heavy Italian house on the ultra-dreamy 'Konban Wa (Real Version)' and Hardway Brothers propel us into deep space on a sublime, headline-grabbing rework of their collaboration with Secret Soul Society, 'We've Landed'.
