Review
Given his nu-jazz background, it's perhaps unsurprising that Tim Vita and Oliver Gehrmann's "Jazzclub" - the lead track on this EP of collaborations - appealed to Local Talk co-founder Mad Mats. It's arguably the release's most striking moment, and sees the German duo lacing murky spoken word samples and blasts of original jazz atop a sweaty, hissing, bass-heavy jazz-house groove. There's a loose jazziness, too, to Gehrmann's "Street Sounds", which expertly shuffles between piano and vocal samples atop a bumpy, loose-limbed house groove. There's more jazzwise fun on "Blessed Munchkin", where Vita and Gehrmann are joined by Xavier Hirsh. With live Rhodes keys to the floor and deliciously swinging deep jazz-house beats, it sounds like a European take on the classic Moodymann sound.Get new release alerts
