Review

Little is known about either TWCOR or Borderlands - Waves is the first release on the label - but rest assured we'll be hearing a lot more about both over the coming months. Spread over four tracks, this is big room techno done in a smart, dynamic fashion. Monstrous kicks and cheesewire percussion underpin ominous, Dave Clarke-style chords on both the title track and "Refusal of the Call". "Meeting the Mentor" sees TWCOR opt for a different, more stripped back approach, as a lean, linear groove underpins a ponderous vocal sample. Completing this head-turning debut is "The Road Back", where dark sirens, swirling filters and doubled up claps conspire to deliver TWCOR's darkest track so far.
