Sebastien Michel's debut album as UVB follows a number of Eps on Bas Mooy's label. Mord may be known as a hard techno platform, but Life defies such expectations. Admittedly, there is a sufficient number of tough workouts on this album - this writer's favourites being the dense, visceral "Ego" and the muffled vocals and loopy groove of "Rules" - but there is also no shortage of less predictable experiments. "Birth" resounds to broken beats and guttural screeches, "Introspection" is based on eerie filter washes, while "Waking" sees UVB try his hand at live drumming, resulting in a dense cacophony of rhythm to rival early Oliver Ho material.
