Review
Following a busy 2024, Yan Cook returns to ARTS with this club-focused EP. "Surface Tension" delivers everything you'd expect from one of Cook's productions - throbbing bass, tight percussive layers and robust drums. It's functional but still highly distinctive techno. "22-44" follows in a similar vein. The kicks are harder and the low end sounds cavernous, making for a more intense variation on this sound. The title track sees Cook adopt a different approach. With a focus on repetitive tones and a pulsating low end, it sees the prolific producer occupy the same kind of sonic territory as Mike Parker. Meanwhile, "Kviten" marks another shift, with Cook fusing hypnotic chords with Detroit style tonal shifts.Get new release alerts
