Review: Brixton-born legend Don Letts (- a cultural polymath, pop star, filmmaker, radio broadcaster, commentator, Grammy winner and DJ- ) curates the latest Late Night Tales compilation with a diabotical 'Version Excursion'. Song choices are diverse, from French dubsters' OBF's rendition of "Sixteen Tons", to Ash Walker's refix of Omar's "There's Nothing Like This" and "All I Do Is Think About You" - immortalised by the ill-fated Tammi Terrell and preserved here by Quantic (the latter two both exclusives). Amidst a wealth of rarities you'll also find a cover (by Wrongtom Meets The Rockers) of The Clash's "Lost In The Supermarket" while between much more is Lett's exclusive rendition of Big Audio Dynamite's debut hit, "E = MC2". Review: Monty Luke's Nightdubbing project on Rekids was designed to showcase the Black Catalogue boss's deep love of dub-infused house and techno. This 13-track album combines previously unheard cuts with nine tracks previously showcased across a pair of EPs of the same name. It's a fantastic set all told, with highlights including the smacked-out electro-dub headiness of opener '40 Acres and a Terrabyte', the extra-percussive deep dub-house hypnotism of 'Bob Molly', the after-hours friendly minimalism of 'Star Storms', the Detroit-goes-dub techno pulse of 'New World/Old Future', the classic dub techno warmth of 'Dark Paradise', and the dub-wise deep house dreaminess of 'Avantgarde Dancehall'. Throw in a handful of tidy ambient and digital dub tracks, and you have a genuinely superb long-player.

Review: Label newcomer Canopy Records, compiled and conceptualised by label head Sumosui, sends out some super Afro transmission for this first release. 'Africa No 1' is a single that features a superb tune from Benin City in Edo State, Nigeria, which was first put out locally in 1987. It is by the late great Nigerian reggae artist Ehi Duncan and his The Africa Army Express band and next to the uplifting original are two new mixes from Captain Planet. He brings the tune into the modern day with some tight key, horn and synth sounds for the first mix, and the second is a slower, more mid-tempo bit of afro disco. Lovely vibes.
