Flex Ya Chest EP
Area Code - (2:48) 150 BPM
Played by: DJ Hybrid, DARK MOON
Review: The legendary DJ Hybrid is back in business with another top quality collection, unloading four garage-inspired bumpers on this brand new EP. The title track 'Flex Ya Chest' takes centre stage from the off, exploring old school garage vocal overlays and hard hitting sublines to kick the EP off in serious style. Next, a 140 VIP mix of 'Big Four Five', utilising a hard hitting vocal line atop a bed of quivering LFO lines and choppy drum textures, before the super smooth sub notation of 'All For You' gives us another thunderous display in close pursuit. Finally, 'Area Code' ups the pace significantly with a dancefloor-ready rumbler, focussing on fidgeting synth lines and smooth pads to give us a slightly alternative closer.

I Don't Take Requests EP
Love Sensation - (2:40) 150 BPM
Review: Four40 have been known for their cultivation of talent since their inception, with this latest offering seeing the monstrous flavours of bullet tooth land for a much awaiting link up. Across these five tracks, we see exactly what bullet tooth is all about, with the moody sub pulses of 'Your Love' and crunching drum stutters of 'Immaculate Skank' giving us a truly vibrant experience. Killa P then touches down for a hard hitting vocal performance on the heavily syncopated slides of 'Brand New Day', followed by the pacey breaks-driven drum lines of 'Love Sensation'. Finally, we round off with a more subtle piece of soundscaping entitled 'Signal', bringing a touch of calm to bring this awesome debut drop to a close.

Deft - "OKURTHEEXPERT" - (3:54) 150 BPM
Review: Long live team Alpha Pup, an excellently organised project that have moved onto the third edition of their epic '20/20' compilation series, exploring the most lethal reaches of underground bass music. Featuring hard hitting originals from the likes of Ivy Lab, Dismantle, Rocks FOE, Bakey and more, it's clear that the team have gone all out on this collection, with sounds ranging as wide as the hardcore inspired mysticism of 'Naananaana' from Rohaan, to the industrial techno-flavours of Ila Brugal's 'Cynical'. The whole project packs a punch, but our highlights would have to include both the intense metallic madness of Deft's 'OKURTHEEXPERT', alongside Manni Dee's monstrous 'Wet Slide' creation. Top work all around!

Criminal Sound - "The Jungle" - (5:15) 159 BPM
Review: Oh gosh! Whether you're massively into Deep In The Jungle but you've got a few holes in your collection that need filling, or you've just started getting into this side of the music, this 60+ anthem collection is an amazing resource for all modern day junglists. Curated by bossman DJ Hybrid, this collection takes us back through the label's history and cherry picks an amazing array of peaktime wounders, bruisers and bubblers. To pick one or two highlights from such a generous collection doesn't feel right so let us advise you to take in that tracklist, press play and totally vibe out to some of the best jungle bangers made in the last 11 years. Mad love to the DITJ crew!

Colin Curtis Presents Jazz Dance Fusion 4

Alonso Gonzalez & Jazz Latino - "Mr. Fool" - (5:15) 150 BPM
Review: In an industry where the term 'veteran' is bandied about far too freely, Colin Curtis is the real deal! His DJing career goes all the way back to legendary Northern Soul club The Golden Torch in the late 60s. In the 70s, he was a resident at Blackpool Mecca alongside Ian Levine, where he became one of the first DJs to introduce the more modern sound of jazz-funk to the scene. By the mid-80s he'd become an early UK champion of house, too, but these days it's on the jazz-dance scene that he's most revered - and here he serves up a 26-track connoisseur's collection that shows why. Ranging from straight-up jazz and soul to soulful house and leaning heavily towards the Afro- and Latin-flavoured, some of these cuts are recent offerings, some date back as far as the 70s, but on jazz-dance floors, all will go down a treat.

Escape - "Escape" (The Optical mix) - (4:46) 154 BPM
Review: Blank Mind Recordings, based in London, has tapped into the significance of a particular strand of jungle and breakbeat hardcore music prevalent during the period of 1991-1994. Their latest compilation showcases eight tracks characterized by dense atmospheric breaks, featuring artists such as DJ Mayhem, Luxury, and Skanna from that era. The standout track, 'Inesse' by Mayhem, serves as the focal point around which the compilation is curated. Against the backdrop of a tumultuous political climate, notably marked by the passage of the stringent anti-rave Criminal Justice Act in 1994, this record and its pulsating compositions take on a renewed significance, reframed within a context of resistance and social justice.

LDS - "Maxidub" - (5:06) 155 BPM
Review: SHDW's label marks its twentieth release with this weighty compilation. Drawing on some of the most respected names in techno, volume three is full of peak-time bangers. There's the lean, rolling techno of Chlar's "Inside Us", while Dax J showers the listener with waves of acid tones on the steely, peak-time "Celestial Dub". The Advent's "Randomized" is a bruising and quite brilliant industrial techno workout. While Blawan's hyperactive "Don't You Dare Squawk At Me" hovers just below the 160 bpm mark, not all of the compilation is as intense. Vocals are mixed with chiming chords on Gary Beck's "Fold" and Z.I.P.P.O's "Broken Game" is a deep Detroit techno track.

The Cut Off
UK Style - (3:23) 156 BPM
Review: Seven years after Bitter Music, Perc returns with his fourth studio album. The Cut Off is bookended with the gentle ambience of "Can You Imagine" and the droning "Calcify"- and includes other divergences like the jittery electronic soundtrack on "Heartbeat Popper". "Milk Snatchers Return" also presents another unexpected turn as Perc fuses atmospheric synths with dense tribal drums. But his focus soon turns to this signature sound. The sharp percussive shapes of "Static", which features Sissel Wincent on vocals, is an industrial techno anthem in waiting. And the intense acid of "Cold Snap" and the pounding kicks and heads-down rhythm on "Full Goblin" are reminders that few producers do forward-looking, impactful techno as well as Perc.

Mark Reeve & KLOSET - "Rave Selektor" - (6:36) 150 BPM
Review: The latest release on Reinier Zonneveld's label is a split EP, with two double acts responsible for separate tracks. Mark Reeve & KLOSET's "Rave Selektor" is true to its name - against a pounding techno rhythm, they drop an ominous, hardcore bass and even a ragga MC sample. In keeping with the Filth on Acid approach, a growling 303 gnaws away in the background. Prolific pair Dok & Martin also embrace the rave sound on "Dimensional". However, on this occasion, a booming bass and pounding kicks provide the basis for disco filters and a soulful vocal sample that is woven through the arrangement.

Review: The mighty Suburban Base returns with a second collection of blueprints that helped to shape one of the most important cultural phenomenons to happen in the UK since The Beatles - Jungle. A sound, style and mindset that still seems futuristic to this day, nothing sounded like these records at the time and they all still stand tall - and incredibly relevant - to this day. Highlights include the utterly seminal 'Babylon' by Splash, DJ Hype's choppy anthem 'Dawn Of The Fever', Lick Back Organisation's FSOL-sampling 'Music Of The Future' and the supreme euphoria of Dextrous's 'Jungle Theme'. Massive.

Cloud Nine - (5:32) 159 BPM Hot
Review: Eusebeia and Artificial Red Join up with "Mindgame 4," a three-track EP on MindGames, a sub-label of Samurai. The opener, "Sweet Memories," sets the tone perfectly. Lush pads wash over a downtempo groove, while Eusebeia's vocals shimmer with a touch of longing. Then it is "peace of Mind," offering a sense of resolution, with a gentle melody and ethereal vocals. However, a subtle tension lingers, suggesting that inner peace may be a fleeting state. Rounding out the EP is "Cloud Nine," a blissful soundscape that brings the release to a peaceful close. Ethereal vocals and shimmering synths create a sense of weightlessness, leaving the listener feeling uplifted and serene.

Sing To Me - (2:58) 150 BPM
Review: Although it might still be too soon to call Texan producer DJ Poolboi a legend, his music is certainly starting to lean the way of legendary, with lo-fi house the artist's trademark. It's the boi's third album in four years across three labels and first on Shall Not Fade in which he's become something of a figure head, and Into The Blue Light signals potential for AOTY (Album of the Year). Filled with deep and impactful emotion, melancholy and warmth, it's a long player that pulls at the heart-strings while firing up the dancefloor with chords, keys and melodies that hit those sweet spots, while booming in kick, bass and drums. Highlights include opener, "Won't Let You Ruin My Mood", the pop-aqua rave of "For The Last Time" and some piano-driven Moby inspirations in "The Joy You Once Felt".

Circle Of Madness
Glintstones - (1:45) 159 BPM
Review: Sonar Kollektiv present the first solo album from German drummer, composer and producer Janek van Laak, previously best known as one-half of the duo Tutu Amuse alongside vocalist and fellow Berlin native Rosa Landers, and as co-founder of the experimental outfit Liquid Brain Orchestra. 'Circle Of Madness' is a largely instrumental affair but does feature a brace of guest vocalists - Australia's Madeleine Rose on 'Here To Slay' and Japan's Shiomi Kawaguchi on 'Daiamondo', while van Laak himself sings on a couple of tracks. Musically, it's wonked-out, off-kilter drums and horns that do most of the heavy lifting, augmented by floaty keys and the occasional electronic parp and squelch. Definitely one for those who like things on the more out-there side.

Asian Love Dance (remix) - (7:03) 159 BPM
Review: Pull the trigger! Krust is back with the penultimate volume of his 'Irrational Numbers' series that digs deep into his Full Cycle, Talkin Loud, Dope Dragon and V Recordings output throughout the 90s and early 2000s. As always there are unreleased gems of yore; this time a tripped out twist on 'Asian Dance' and an alternative mix to the beautifully vibrant 'Burnin'. Elsewhere we have the bassline bumper V classic '21st Century', the quintessential Bristol anthem 'Angles' and the venomous 99-era hip-fronted battering ram with Saul Williams 'Coded Language'. What a selection from an endless trove. No one comes close to Krust.

Sinseerly Yours - (2:53) 150 BPM
Review: "Sinseerly Yours," the debut LP from Los Angeles outfit Thee Sinseers, is a love letter to classic soul and R&B, delivered with a fresh, modern twist. Released on the ever-reliable Colemine label, the album is a testament to the band's tight musicianship and infectious energy. The album's strength lies in its ability to seamlessly blend influences. Hints of 60s girl groups and British Invasion pop dance alongside shimmering soul melodies, all delivered with a distinctly modern swagger. Tracks like "Can't Do That To Her" showcase the band's knack for crafting irresistibly catchy hooks, while deeper cuts like "Hold On" explore the emotional nuances of the genre. Not to forget its vocal interplay. Lead singer Joey Quinones delivers soulful vocals with a smooth charm, while the backing harmonies from Adriana Flores and the rest of the band add a layer of richness and depth. This tight vocal interplay is particularly evident on standout tracks like "Seems Like" and "For You." Colemine Records has a well-deserved reputation for unearthing hidden gems, and "Sinseerly Yours" is no exception.
