You No Fit Touch Am (Medlar Remix Radio)
You No Fit Touch Am (Medlar remix radio) - (4:33) 118 BPM
Review: Though hailing from North London rather than West Africa, Dele Sosimi has been a stalwart of the Afrobeat scene for decades, serving as keyboardist and musical director in Fela Kuti's Egypt 80 from 1979 to 1986, before taking on the same role in son Femi's Positive Force from 1986 to 1994. 'You Fit No Touch Am' first came out on Wah Wah 45s back in 2015, and now the same label bring us a radio-friendly reissue of Medlar's remix that serves as a trailer for an upcoming 27-track Deluxe Edition of the original album -possibly released to mark the great man's recent 60th birthday.

Spring Jazz Session
Spring Jazz Session - (5:26) 119 BPM
Review: A single-tracker here from Russian DJ/producer Anton Bogomolov, better known as Scruscru, coming as ever on his own Scruniversal label. A title like 'Spring Jazz Session' is always gonna be fairly evocative, so you might think you have a pretty good idea what to expect here already... and you'd be pretty much right. Opening with tinkling keys over gentle percussion before introducing a walking bassline and, eventually, an understated 4/4 kick, this mellow, summery groove with its lead flute line is definitely one for afternoon and poolside sessions rather than Saturday night dancefloor abandon - but served on a good system at the right time, it'll sound just heavenly.

My All
My All - (4:00) 110 BPM
Review: With the recent 'Twenty' compilation and assorted remixes out of the way, it's back to business as usual for the Dutch veterans and here we have the first fruit of their post-anniversary labours. 'My All' finds them teaming up with LA-based Turbotito AKA Filip Nikolic, who's perhaps best known as a member of Poolside and Ima Robot, and is a shimmering, pop-dance concoction that's tailor-made for good weather and happy sunshine vibes, with a treated and at times near-falsetto vocal atop fluttering guitars and sprightly keys. Sitting somewhere between nu-disco and Balearica, it's definitely one for your summer sets, so get on it.

Funny Walking
Funny Walking - (6:33) 118 BPM
Review: St Petersburg-based producer Pavel Svetlove has built up quite a discography over the past dozen years or so, chalking up releases on the likes of Music Is The Answer, Moiss Music, King Street Sounds and, of course, Spa In Disco, to which label he now returns with a killer single-tracker. If you like your house on the jazzier side, your jazz on the funkier side and your funk on the housier side then you need 'Funny Walking' in your virtual record box: with neatly clipped beats, parping sax, sprightly pianos and some ker-razy wigged-out Hammond action, it's got everything you need to get the party started, and then some.

Love Me Crazy
Love Me Crazy (original mix) - (3:33) 113 BPM
Review: In which George Kelly, label manager of Greek imprint Chopshop, teams up with BNC, who we're gonna go right ahead and assume is fellow Greek producer and self-proclaimed "disco vampire" Bruises N Cuts (who sometimes uses that same three-letter name). Together they've come up with 'Love Me Crazy', a laidback electronic groover that sits somewhere between early 80s electrofunk and contemporary dance-pop and R&B, and that sports a lightly vocodered vocal (presumably from BNC) that promises to "make you feel all right" and, a tad less subtly, "freak you to the beat". A track made for summer smoochin'.

What I Think About When I'm Thinking Of You
What I Think About When I'm Thinking Of You (original mix) - (4:11) 115 BPM
Review: Get To Know AKA Larry Holcome cut his teeth as the in-house mixing and mastering engineer at Cr2 Records, and made his production debut in the mid-00s with a string of breakbeat releases on labels like Botchit & Scarper and Spin Out Records. None of which would give you any reason to suppose that his latest release, which comes on his own Future Sound Of Then label, would be a dusty, lo-fi, mid-paced Balearic kinda jam that makes extensive use of a Janet Jackson vocal sample, but such is indeed the case. Solid ammunition for all those afternoon, poolside, warm-up and BBQ sets this summer.

Funk Me (original mix) - (6:39) 117 BPM
Review: Just occasionally, something lands in the release pile that makes yours truly just wanna type "oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh" over and over again. Can't do that, though, or Juno would politely inform me that my reviewing services were no longer required. So instead: think back to some of your favourite sumptuous, late night Jersey garage cuts of the 90s - tracks from the likes of Tommy Musto, Hayden Andre or Victor Simonelli that were so deep and sexy you could swim in them. Now imagine them given 21st Century production values and issued on Igor Gonya's impeccable Sundries Digital, and there you go! Outstanding.

Discoscope
Discoscope - (4:48) 117 BPM
Review: Kim&Buran are probably best known for their work on the seminal Nang label - and if that doesn't give you enough of a clue what to expect here, then perhaps their description of themselves as a "Russian retro-futuristic space disco band, playing sci-fi, cosmic easy-listening, space disco and downtempo" will! Nu-disco in the classic Nang style is the order of the day, with 'Discoscope' bringing all the dreamy, driftaway 80s synths and vocodered vocal snips you could ask for, placing them atop a walking bassline and a chunky but not overbearing 4/4 kick. Just the one mix, so there's not really much more to tell you.

Cosmic Union - (4:55) 114 BPM
Review: Continuing their streak of delivering musical treasures from the acclaimed "Crazy P Curates" compilation, 20/20 Vision Recordings introduces another standout piece. This time, it's the collaboration of UK DJ/producer Rose Robinson, known as Tigerbalm, reuniting with vocalist Joy Tyson. In "Cosmic Union," Tigerbalm skillfully guides us through an exploration of Afrocentric rhythms infused with the vibrant spirit of Brazilian funk and global influences. The result is a captivating journey that takes familiar elements and propels them into a fresh, exciting journey.

Gentle Riot
Gentle Riot - (4:47) 117 BPM
Review: "Gentle Riot," a collaborative effort between Sasha Rome, Artemis Orion, and Mayari on the Future Disco label, is a genre-bending exploration of empowerment and self-acceptance. This single transcends the boundaries of traditional disco, offering a unique blend of electronic soundscapes, soulful vocals, and empowering lyrics. The track opens with a deceptively gentle introduction, featuring shimmering synths and a steady bassline. As the song progresses, the energy builds, with pulsating drums and driving percussion taking center stage. This juxtaposition between the "gentle" and the "riot" perfectly captures the essence of the title, highlighting the power of quiet strength and inner resilience. Well-crafted and engaging single that delivers a powerful message wrapped in a delightful sonic experience.

I Can't Stop - (6:34) 114 BPM
Review: Hard on the heels of volumes 133 and 128, MBO returns with his third contribution to the long-running 'Katakana Edits' series, and two tasty little nuggets he's served up too! In the blue corner we have 'I Can't Stop', a funk-fuelled disco chugger (origins unknown) with a female vocal intoning the title, a slinky-assed bassline, brass fanfares and some seriously soaraway sax work. In the red corner, meanwhile, there's the slower-moving 'Once You Get It', which reworks the BT Express cut of the same name (from their classic 1974 long-player 'Do It ('Til You're Satisfied)').

Guitar Hero
CC:DISCO! & Jennifer Loveless - "Magic (Is In Tempo)" - (6:09) 118 BPM Hot
Played by: Downunder Disco
Review: Following a fine outing on Phantasy Sound last year, CC: Disco re-emerged earlier this year with 'Magic (Is In The Tempo), a killer collaboration with Jennifer Loveless that combined her love of all things Balearic with an instinctive feel for the dancefloor and nods to both sunrise-ready house and early '90s synth-pop B-sides. Fittingly, that track gets another airing on her latest release (track two), but it's opener and title track 'Guitar Hero' that we'll focus on. It sees the Europe-based Aussie wrap echoing piano riffs, psychedelic electronic noises, trippy effects and, you guessed it, guitar textures around a quality Korg M-1 style organ bassline and snappy house beats. It's a little more muscular and more thickset than 'Magic (Is In The Tempo)', but every bit as fun.

Jukurpa
Jukurpa (extended mix) - (4:59) 118 BPM
Review: Despite her status as a globe-trotting purveyor of "melodic music" that "takes you on a journey through time and space", Deer Jade has not released all that much music. In fact, this two-track outing for Cologne's mighty Kompakt Records marks her solo debut. She dials up the mysticism on title track 'Jukrupa', a swirling and trippy cut built around complex, intricately programmed percussion, bold bass and twinkling piano motifs that recall rushing old school house. Her love of all things psychedelic comes to the fore on 'Cosmic Dream', where mutant acid bass, echoing electronic motifs, hazy chords and trance-inducing TB-303 lines deliver nods to formative UK progressive house.

Restaurantica / Coastal Path
Restaurantica - (5:11) 118 BPM Hot
Review: Russian disco doyen Anton Bogomolov, better known as ScruScru, comes to Tropical Disco with two new cuts here. We'll start with 'Coastal Path', an appropriately mellow and meandering number with something of a smooth jazz/jazz-fusion feel (check out that George Benson-esque guitar) - perfect for afternoon sets, summer BBQ's, etc. But it's 'Restaurantica' that provides the EP's real "Omigosh omigosh omigosh!" moment: an all-instrumental affair made up of beats, bass, piano and sax, the utterly jazz-tastic 'Restaurantica' rocks, rolls and rollicks along gloriously from start to finish and is quite possibly ScruScru's finest outing to date. Acquire.

The Light
IGOTCHA - (4:36) 117 BPM
Review: Two brand new cuts here from the northeast UK's finest purveyors of 'new old' funk and soul. 'The Light' features Blue Note legend Ronnie Foster on keyboards and is an uplifting and supremely funky cut that John Turrell describes as a reaction to "the last three years on this lonely island... rise above it and let the love shine in!" The accompanying 'I Gotcha', meanwhile, is a slightly more lilting and laidback affair that nevertheless exhorts us to "feel that music, rock that rhythm, dance until you can't sit down". Just the tonic if you're in need of some positive soulful vibes right now.

Something Stronger - (6:57) 117 BPM Hot
Review: Toledo-based Spanish DJ, producer and mastering engineer David Martin, better known to the music-buying public as K-Effect, comes to New York label Disc-o-lypso with two tracks that, as is his wont, blur the boundaries between progressive house, Italo disco and techno. 'Something Stronger' itself is a deep, dark chugger with a sleazy and at times quite menacing feel, and synths that get more intense as it goes on. The accompanying 'Arms', meanwhile, is a smoother, lighter ride with a buzzing bee-like synth riff serving as the track's primary hook. Think 'Arms' for the warm-up and the title track for those eyes-down 4am moments.

Five Six Seven Eight (radio edit) - (3:07) 118 BPM
Review: The clue's in the name here, as UK deep house and disco stalwart Pete Le Freq teams up with the unmistakeable tonsils of Freakpower's Ashley Slater on a track that first appeared on a Bombstrikes comp a year or two back but now gets a single release on Pete's own Alpaca Edits label. 'Five Six Seven Eight' comes in Properly Extended and Radio Edit mixes, with Slater on top growling, sleazoid form and Le Freq providing a suitably funk-fuelled backdrop. Definitely something of a Wild Cherry-ish feel here, but since when was that a bad thing? Play that funky music, white boys!

Il Lupo
Il Lupo - (5:29) 115 BPM
Review: Oceanvs Orientalis, the Istanbul-based maestro known for his hypnotic and culturally diverse soundscapes, collaborates with Italian artist Tooker to deliver II Lupo as their debut on the revered Crosstown Rebels label. Drawing from Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic, and Armenian influences, Oceanvs Orientalis creates a thick tapestry of sound that unfolds after a year of global performances. The EP immerses listeners in a haunting atmosphere of ethereal synth-lines, wolf howls, and resonant drum hits, transporting us into a realm of intrigue. The collaboration with Tooker adds an extra dimension to Oceanvs Orientalis's signature downtempo style, with Acid Pauli's remix enriching the melodic journey with cosmic stabs, shimmering chimes and vivacious tones. The result is a soul-stirring composition that showcases the synergy between these talented artists and their ability to craft an immersive sonic experience.

Take It Easy
Take It Easy - (3:40) 118 BPM Hot
Review: German funk-breaks don Jayl Funk serves up two contrasting but complementary cuts on this latest outing for Greece's Timewarp Music. 'Take It Easy' itself is a classic-style funk jam with a distinctly jazzy twist to its lounge-y male scatted vox and bright piano chords - the kind of cut that summer poolside sessions were made for. 'The Other DJ', meanwhile, comes much more obviously from the funk-breaks school of thought, opening with a spoken vocal sample and heading down the cut 'n' paste route throughout, with some scratch sounds thrown in for good measure. Party-startin' stuff for sure.

Driving By Your Side
Driving By Your Side (Dance edit) - (5:55) 118 BPM
Review: UK-based Gallic twosome OR return with a single release on Greek label Kraak. 'Driving By Your Side' is presented in two quite different mixes. In its Original form, it's a laidback, lilting Balearic groover that's in no hurry to go anywhere very much, but is tailor-made for stretching out and closing your eyes against the sunshine. The accompanying Dance Mix, meanwhile, ups the tempo a few notches and introduces some pleasingly squelchy and 'Shaft'-ish funk guitar chops: again, a slow build-and-ebb approach is favoured over big room drama, but there's still enough energy here to get 'em moving without a doubt.

Settin' It Out (dub mix) - (6:37) 116 BPM
Review: The funk vibes are strong in this one! Dee-Bunk is Hamburg-based Stefan Schoenewerk, who's been DJing since 1985 and making his own tracks for over 30 years. While 'Settin' It Out' isn't billed as a re-edit, it's fair to say that the sampler has come extensively into play here - what the source material was we couldn't tell you but think early 80s electro-funk and you'll get the general idea, with near-falsetto male vox, squelchy analogue stabs, synth-brass parps and the occasional electric guitar squall. The accompanying Dub ditches most of the vocal but otherwise doesn't stray too far from the original's blueprint.

Prayin' / Baby I'm Back
Baby I'm Back - (3:51) 111 BPM
Review: There are veterans and there are veterans: by the time Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes became darlings of the nascent disco scene with a string of releases on Philadelphia International in the mid-70s, they'd already been in the game for 20 years, having formed as doo-wop outfit The Charlemagnes way back in 1954! Here, though, is a chance to catch them in their late 70s prime, with Teddy Pendergrass supplying the lead vocals on two reissued ultra-soulful disco cuts taken from 1979's 'The Blue Album', only one of which ('Prayin') was granted a single release at the time.

Checking Out (instrumental) - (4:06) 116 BPM
Review: This rare groove hails from South London's 1984 scene. Produced by Jamaican-born Tony Williams, the mastermind behind the classic Funk Masters' "Love Money," "Checking Out" stands as a unique single. The track blends the soulful energy of MFSB's "Mysteries of the World" with a distinct British twist, capturing the essence of Brit-funk. A cool, instrumental flip-side completes the package. Originally released on the small Tai Wan label, "Checking Out" has stood the test of time. This fully remastered version, sourced from the original tapes, brings this essential Brit-funk gem back to life with a meticulously recreated label design.

Review: Oslo-based London lad From Beyond has been doing his thing mostly for the likes of Paper Disco, Golden Soul and Nein Records since 2018. Earlier in the year he released the 'Non Analogue' EP on Rare Wiri, and now here come the remixes, with the 80s synth-oriented 'Far Far' now given an added dose of squelch courtesy of Parisian veteran Kelton Prima, while 'Non Analogue' itself, which originally sounded like electro getting caught in the act of turning into early Chi-town house, gets beefed up a notch or three by Spa In Disco boss Saint-Loup-En-Bray, and as result plonks itself down more firmly in the latter arena.

Need You (Unclepasha remix) - (5:57) 118 BPM Hot
Review: Two recent cuts from Russian disco don Alexander Chebankov, better known as Sunner Soul, get handed over to fellow St Petersburg native Unclepasha - whose musical CV dates back to the early 00s - for the remix treatment. His take on 'Right Place', which first appeared on last month's 'Something Good' EP, tones down the boogie and jazz-funk influences of the original and ends up deeper and smoother as a result. Conversely, he's kept the boogie stylings of 'Need You' (taken from February's 'Da Funk' EP) intact and arguably even emphasised them, in a dubbed-out remix that gets distinctly Levan/Peech Boys-esque in places.

Look What You've Done (original mix) - (6:50) 118 BPM
Review: Last time he appeared on Lazy Days Recordings, Freerange Records regular Matt Masters was in collaboration with fellow deep house veteran Milton Jackson. Here, he goes solo, offering up a sun-soaked slab of dreamy deep house/jazz-house fusion ('Look What You've Done') marked out by eyes-closed female vocal samples, bossa-house beats, effects-laden jazz samples and twinkling piano motifs. Lazy Days co-founder Fred Everything provides the accompanying remix, reaching for bleeping melodies, bubbly synth-bass, slightly toughened up drums and clumps of Masters' most melodic, summery instrumentation. It's a great remix with plenty of peak-time potential, though it does lack the breezy blissfulness of Masters' dusty original version.

Review: Djosa, a member of Dutch band Arp Frique & The Family, steps out in solo mode with two very different tracks. 'Botanica Obscura' itself is almost textbook Italo/space disco, with sci-fi synths underpinned by a Moroder-esque bassline, and will please lovers of the style for sure. But it's the accompanying 'Vampiro' that takes the gold for yours truly, as he teams up with veteran Dutch/Surinamese jazz flautist Ronald Snijders on a classy cut that just oozes lounge-y, tropical 70s disco appeal, and that somehow manages to conjure a hazy, laidback vibe despite being deceptively uptempo in the beats department.

Review: South London lad Tony Johns returns to Rare Wiri with two tracks of uncertain genesis: he's probably best known for his re-edits but he does make original tracks as well, and which category these two fall into we couldn't tell you. Either way, though, 'Hidden Sadness' is a hazy, pulsating, Balearic-ish instrumental jam, with the synths mostly to the fore but also sporting a nice little piano interlude in the mid-section, while 'Synthsational' is more uptempo and packs a heftier bottom end, making it the pick to these ears. Review: 'Crue 4' by the enigmatic label Crue is yet another testament to the underground brilliance that this mysterious project has consistently delivered over the past years. With their identity still shrouded in mystery, Crue has once again captured our attention with this release. The first track is a rare gem in the world of house music, featuring a warm and dubby glow that perfectly complements the scorching waves of disco at its core. The fusion of these elements creates a captivating sonic experience that's hard to come by. Then the track B continues to impress, jingling and dangling its 70s wings with finesse. This time, it takes on a bumpier, more explosive groove that keeps the energy levels high. Crue's ability to blend elements of house and disco in such a unique and entrancing manner makes this release a choice pick for those in search of quality underground music.

Review: Luca LTJ Trevisi is an Italian scene veteran whose career dates back to the 80s, when he was in at the start of the country's house and acid jazz scenes. He's long been associated with the IRMA label and here fellow label regular Pomante mucks in to help him rework a couple of back catalogue nuggets, 'Don't Let You Down' from 2015 and 'Deeper' from 2019. The former is a mid-paced contemporary funk groover with a heavyweight b-line and parping sax, while 'Deeper' has a slightly housier feel, but either should slot into those modern funk and soul sets nicely.

Review: Bruce Leroys inaugurates the Aureum label, an outlet - we think - primarily for their own productions, via a collaboration with poet and singer Helora Galhardo, whose Portuguese lyrics reportedly "speak of the most precious asset we all have and possess the message that we must live with all the intensity possible, in a light and free way." Deep house mainstay Ludovic Llorca dons his familiar Art of Tones alias to provide the EP-opening remix, a hybrid nu-disco/electrofunk/analogue house workout that's as sunny and breezy as stroll along a Brazilian beach at dusk. Leroys deliver a version of their own as Aureum, a subtly tech-tinged deep house rework built around gorgeous chords, undulating bass and snappy broken house beats.

Since making his or her debut in 2018, the publicity-shy producer has returned on countless occasions. So, what's on offer this time round? Two bona-fide party-starting reworks, that's what. 'House Party' subtly beefs up, speeds up and loops up the Fred Wesley track of the same name (or at least a version of that classic cut), while 'It's All Right Now' sees Goji Berry charge, arms aloft, towards down-low disco-funk territory while straightening out and thickening out his source material's lose and sweat-soaked drums.

'Topesa Esengo Na Motema' in its Original form is a lively, carnival-friendly workout with a sing-song foreign language female vocal, complex percussion, sprightly guitars and lashings of brass, while the accompanying Bosq Remix is a slightly more stripped-back affair that strips away some of the densely packed layers of instrumentation and gives the drums more prominent billing, making it a surefire party-starter on floors where global beats are served. It's been four years since their last long-player, so does 'Topesa...' herald a new full-length? We'll have to wait and see...

Palats / Crypt
Palats - (7:16) 118 BPM
Crypt - (9:20) 119 BPM
Review: Stiltz's third release on Axel Boman's label is witness to another reinvention of deep house. The tite track starts off with a pulsing bass and some irresistibly seductive keys - borrowed straight from Larry Heard's rulebook - but puzzingly, midway through a siren comes blaring in to disrupt the peace. "Crypt" is less predictable and sees Stiltz avoid typical house tropes. The track's syths are crystalline and austere, like wind blowing across snow covered fields, and the backing consists of splintered rhythms and beats that go in and out of time. Like all releases on this label, it makes a welcome change from the glut of cookie cutter deep house tracks.

Never Let You Go / Sparkle (Frico Edits)
Never Let You Go - (7:12) 117 BPM Hot
Review: Germany's DJ Friction once more dons his Frico re-editor's hat and serves up another brace of reworks of classic tracks from days of yore - more specifically, in this instance, days of early 80s boogie yore. First to get the treatment is 'Never Let You Go', a 1982 cut by UK outfit Savanna. Frico's remake is very faithful to the original, but most importantly he leaves the fine scatting section towards the end intact... doo doo dah-dah! Frico then turns his attention to 'Sparkle', another 1982 jam, this time by veteran Japanese singer-songwriter and producer Tatsuro Yamashita. Boogie lovers will be in raptures.

Temple Of Dreams (Remixes Part 1)
Voices In My Head (Damian Lazarus re-shape) - (7:51) 118 BPM
Review: Bedouin, the creative partnership of Rami Abousabe and Tamer Malki, released its expansive debut album, Temple Of Dreams, earlier this year. Now Human By Default is putting out remixes of key tracks from the long player. First up is Damian Lazarus, with a reshape of "Voices In My Head". Integrating the original version's chants into a swirling, deep house groove, the Crosstown Rebels boss delivers an esoteric take that is sure to stand out. Vintage Culture's remix of "Tijuana" is more upfront. While retaining Bedouin's mysterious melodies, he factors in an insistent minimal house rhythm. It makes for a captivating but club-friendly combination.

Katakana Edits Vol 133
Twilight - (6:11) 118 BPM
Review: MBO's first contribution to the 'Katakana Edits' came on Vol 128 and now, just five instalments later, he's back with another brace of fresh reworks of vintage nuggets. What exactly those nuggets are will have to go sadly unidentified this time out, but 'Twilight' is an unhurried lounge-y, tropical kinda jam with some sprightly-fingered jazz keys and minor chords that recall Flash & The Pan's 'Waiting For A Train', while 'Boca' is even more laidback, with Balearic-style dusty, sampled drums, wistful flute, schmaltzy strings and, most importantly, some very cool, blues-y Hammond work. Perfect for groovin' on a sunny afternoon.

Mishima
Mishima (Hercules & Love Affair - club mix) - (7:47) 119 BPM Hot
Review: Do you like pounding electronic drum beats? Do you like big, throbbing bass? Do you like nagging synths and spoken vocals? Then you'll love this collab between Hercules & Love Affair and aristocratic British musician, actress and designer Daphne Guinness, because it's got all of those in spades. A midtempo affair, 'Mishima' wears its 80s influences proudly on its sleeve - think coldwave, EBM and new beat - but it'll certainly stand out on the radio, its natural home. For dancefloor purposes, meanwhile, there's H&LA's own Club Mix, which ups the tempo several notches and is considerably lighter on its feet. Shape-throwing will doubtless ensue.

Nase
Nase - (3:30) 117 BPM
Played by: SIRABA
Review: Malian-French duo Siraba, consisting of Boubacar Samake and Damien Vandesande of dOP, return with their third single, "Nase", with a remix by US house legend Joeski. Blending the traditional sound of West Africa's Wassoulou with cutting-edge electronic music, Siraba's music carries a message of love and respect. "Nase" effortlessly combines organic instrumentation and soulful vocals with infectious house grooves, featuring hand claps and Ngoni strings all the more. Joeski's remix adds an immersive layer of deep house, intertwining elegant synths and soul-stirring chords for a release on Damian Lazarus' Secret Teachings imprint that goes lengths to temper a cultured translation of Malian music into a contemporary rhythm.

Freak At Night EP
Bit-O-Honey - (4:24) 116 BPM Hot
Review: RNT welcomes Amy Douglas - of Horse Meat Disco, DFA, Soul Clap and Tiger Sushi fame - to their label with a double dose rough-n-tumble NYC disco heat. Amy's distinctive vocal swagger and songwriting talent shines through on this EP, co-written and produced by Razor-N-Tape co-honcho JKriv. Both tracks are bass-heavy ear-worms, serving as wickedly naughty party starters. With Freaks At Night delivering a pair of future modern disco classics to ignite dance floors, get your vocal-led bassline and pianos from "Freak At Night" with some sultry drums and percussion in "Bit-O-Honey".

The Raja / This Is The Key
The Raja - (6:39) 119 BPM Hot
Review: London's Tropical Disco bring us a two-tracker from Frank Virgilio, who's been DJing around Naples and beyond since the early 90s but who only made the leap into production in around 2015 or so. 'The Raja' itself sits on the cusp between house, techno and Italo-disco and sports some female laughter by way of a vocal, but presumably takes its name from the Indian-style percussion that serves as an intro and then reappears in the breakdown and run-out. The accompanying 'This Is The Key', meanwhile, is a chunky house jam topped with what appears to be some Liverpudlian studio chatter.

Ayo! / Shoes Off
Shoes Off - (4:26) 113 BPM
Review: Hold onto your colourful turbans and groove-ready sandals because Jimmy Wallace himself is back with a bang in his fifth musical escapade on his Tartan series! Let's talk about "Ayo!" - it's like someone took a joyride through a neon-infused rollercoaster while riding a disco ball. This track's got more twists and turns than a Bollywood plot, seamlessly weaving together uplifting pianos, drum machine magic, and a sprinkle of the ever-elusive 303. Then "Shoes Off" takes you on a whimsical journey that feels like the love child of Balearic beats and Bhangra vibes. It's like your ears are being serenaded by a rainbow-drenched unicorn on a beach in Goa.

Into The Infinity Of Light
Into The Infinity Of Light - (6:46) 118 BPM
Played by: Rayko
Review: Leeds-based Jay Dixon AKA Jay-Son specialises in dark, moody electronic disco and has chalked up releases on such labels as Rare Wiri, When Disco Goes Wrong, Paisley Dark and Nein Records, among others. Here he returns to the former with a two-track release: 'Into The Infinity Of Light' is a throbbing, pulsating workout that blends influences from Italo disco, Belgian new beat, coldwave and acid house, topping the lot with rave-y "come on!" shouts, while the accompanying 'Such A Vibration' is a hazier affair that operates at a much slower tempo and makes good use of some classic Loleatta vocal snips.

Step Up! - (6:26) 115 BPM Hot
Jk St. Boogie - (4:33) 117 BPM
Review: Young Mexican producer Luca Ferrand impresses greatly with what is, as far as we can make out, his first ever release. 'Step Up!' blends together classic disco/funk influences, a dash of 303 acid squelch and a few well-chosen familiar vocal snips, all with a distinct deep house sensibility, while 'Jk St. Boogie' has a broadly similar MO but treads a slightly rawer, funkier path. Both cuts should ensure the shaking of any house- and disco-loving ass worth its salt, and both bode well for the future - these ears and this ass, at least, would definitely like to hear more soon!

Back To Life
Back To Life - (6:18) 118 BPM Hot
Arza - (4:56) 119 BPM
Review: Buba from Montenegro dazzles with two exquisite tracks, showcasing a blend of captivating sounds in a mesmerising concoction. "Back To Life" effortlessly fuses Italo and melodic techno with lively percussion dancing alongside a buoyant bassline and ethereal, subdued chords that gradually craft a melancholic atmosphere. A fizzy square wave pulse elevates the mood, leading to a euphoric breakdown where each element soars. It's a stunning track ideal for setting the early-night mood. On the other hand, "Arza" could be described as Italo trance, featuring impeccably tight beats and a sensuous bass arpeggio gracefully fluttering amidst swelling, filtered pads. The percussion intensifies, unveiling a lovely chime melody filtered in a dreamy, lo-fi manner.

Medicine - (3:50) 118 BPM Hot
Review: Daniele Labbate AKA Daniel Monaco is an Italian bass player/producer who's now based in Amsterdam, where he leads up the "hybrid acid techno disco" trio Umeme. In solo mode his work has appeared on labels including Bordello A Parigi and Roam Recordings, and now he comes to legendary Dutch imprint Rush Hour with a brace of collaborations with Senegalese percussionist and vocalist Mame N'Diack Seck Thiam. 'Life Lesson', the loungier of the two, features a pleasingly fat funk bassline and is the standout to these ears, but there's much to be said for the nagging synths of 'Medicinen' too.

CLUB E.A.S.E. - #2
Whodunit - (6:17) 112 BPM
Review: George Evelyn serves up the second volume in what we're told will be an ongoing series of EPs featuring "club music made for basements and afterhours". Up first is '1More Tune', which has a vaguely Latin, carnival-esque kind of feel, but is driven along by a hefty, heavily treated bassline that whump-whump-whumps along throughout. Chuck in some acid-fried synth freakery towards the end and asses will shake to this for sure! It's accompanied by 'Whodunnit?', a slower-moving jam that's aptly titled, rocking as it does something of a film noir vibe with its tension-building horns and eerie pianos.
