Review: Neil Parnell (aka Tronik Youth) has been a staple of London's electro scene for about 10 years now. Lately he's been putting out some seriously fine mixes and re-edits, but here he's just dropped a brand new production. "Zulu Whiskey" is a slowly escalating electro-houser with severe new wave/Balearic leanings - always a good thing in our book. There's plenty of remixes too, including Gemini Brothers' deep and fuzzy italo/cosmic workout and, best of all, the filthy and broken EBM thruster of a mix by man of the moment, Emile Strunz.

Review: The original of this first saw the light back in autumn 2013, and it remains a dynamically built nu-disco track boasting early Aeroplane style piano licks and an arresting vocal from Kristina Train. It's Blamma Blamma at their most stately and stunning. Here we find it in remix form; Psychemagik provide a liquid, bulbous bass facelift, Cato re-emphasises the nude beauty with a few edit sparkles, Wolf + Lamb go deeper with a synth heavy late-night floor stomper while Kiani vs Red D close the show with a sunset-minded slice of modern euphoria. Each twist adding a whole new chapter to the Blamma Blamma story, the only problem is working out which rub to add in your next set.

Review: As collaborations go, this is more than a little tasty. It sees former Chicken Lips man Dean Meredith don his Rhythm Odyssey alter ego for a delay-laden hoedown with New York's finest, Eric 'Dr Dunks' Duncan (he of Rub N Tug fame). Given both producers' fondness for dub disco and raw Chicagoan jack tracks, "Zoo-Ma-City" was always likely to be a sweaty late night beast designed to wreak havoc in dimly-lit basements the world over. It's all that and more - a fearsome dubwise acid jacker full of hissing hi-hats and snappy snares, built around a rock solid analogue bassline and twisted vocal samples. File under "delightfully grubby".

Zombie Jungle EP
Zombie Jungle - (5:53) 115 BPM Hot
Review: Under the Natural Sugars alias, Bristol-based DJ/producer Tim Oxley Smith has previously delivered tasty chuggers and cosmic groovers on a couple of Invisible Inc compilations. This debut EP for home city label Futureboogie Recordings is therefore well deserved. It's also rather good. The star of the show is undoubtedly "Zombie Jungle", a druggy chunk of space disco whose low-slung mid-tempo groove comes smothered in alien-sounding synthesizer lead lines and lashings of bonus percussion. Manfredas turns that into a rushing sprint through throbbing Italo-disco/nu-disco fusion, before Oxley Smith offers up the spaced-out dub disco chug of "The Soothsayer" and the undeniably cosmic shuffle of "Sarsen Trail". As debut singles go, it's a doozy.

If You Drive - (5:38) 115 BPM
Air Vibes - (6:01) 118 BPM
Review: For all his skills as a DJ - and, let's face it, he pretty much created the Afro-cosmic DJ style all on his own - Daniele Baldelli's productions have not always hit the mark. It's heartening to report, then, that this collaboration with Dario Piana for Leng Records is arguably the best thing he's produced to date. "Infinity Machine", where wild, effects-laden Clavinet lines, jammed-out electric piano chords and meandering synthesizer solos ride a particularly druggy arpeggio bassline, sets the tone magnificently, before the Italian duo jogs towards dub disco territory on the percussion rich "If You Drive". Badlelli's love of spacey synths, crunchy guitars and tactile synth bass comes to the fore on closer "Air Vibes", which also boasts a wonderfully tactile breakdown.

Review: Some seven years after dropping his debut solo single - an inspired collection of re-edits for the acclaimed RVNG of the NRDS series - Jacques Renault releases his debut album. Appearing on the Let's Play House label he runs with pal Nik Mercer, Zentrum is an eclectic, anything-goes affair, with an impressive cast of collaborators (The Emperor Machine, Luke Jenner and former Runaway production partner Marcos Cabral included) swinging by to lend a hand. As you might expect, it touches on many of his influences - drowsy leftfield disco, leftfield funk, eccentric broken beats, strobe-lit basement jams, wonky acid house (the rather brilliant "Touch You"), African rhythms, and vintage US garage amongst them - whilst retaining a distinctive voice throughout. Given the obvious eclecticism, it takes a few listens to really sink in, but it's certainly worth the effort; closer "Faith", featuring Karl Dixon, is particularly rewarding.

Zashu
Zashu (Satin Jackets remix) - (7:47) 112 BPM Hot
Review: "Zashu", the lead cut from this EP from unknown quantities Clark & Pudell, sits somewhere between murky nu-disco, '90s darkroom house and contemporary cocaine house. It pops and spits with hypnotic intent, burying subtle melodies under shuffling percussion, Tenaglia-ish chords and middle-eastern vocal samples. It somehow feels both dated and fresh, if that makes sense. Satin Jackets impress on their remix, a jaunty, piano-heavy tribute to the late '80s, rare groove-era pop-house remixes of David Morales and co. Soulplate deliver a subdued garage tweak, while Viper Strike takes it further into Tenaglia territory with a marathon 'bass and beats' edit.

Review: When it comes to blending classic disco and bumpin' peak-time house, few can match Joey Negro - a man who has been offering up disco-fied house jams since the early '90s. There are naturally plenty of his own tracks and remixes on "Put Some Disco In The House", an expansive collection of quality disco-house moments, with highlights including the rolling disco-boogie heat of "Put The Music On It (Original Disco Mix)", the chunky, walking bass-propelled "Dancing Into The Stars" (with Horse Meat Disco and Angela Johnson) and a slamming rework of Sessomato's jazz-funk flavoured "Moody". There's plenty of heat to be found elsewhere, too, with standouts including JKriv and Adeline's "Vertigo", Opolopo's boogie-tinged revision of Sylvester classic "I Need You" and the spiraling disco pump of Yam Who and Jaegerossa's "Grateful".

Review: As usual, Z Records' annual compilation of catalogue tracks doing business over on the White Isle is packed to the rafters with high-grade dancefloor treats. It opens with a sweltering Dave Lee and Harry Romero mix of Z Factor's '90s house classic 'Ride The Rhythm' and ends with Lee's string-laden disco rework of Foreal People's 'Does It Feel Good To You'; in between, you'll find an attractive mixture of bouncy Afro-boogie revivalism (Emmaculate's extended mix of 'Dougswana' by Dave Lee as Doug Willis), reworked Z Records classics (Atjazz giving a classic-but-percussive deep house feel to Jakatta's 'American Dream'), super-soulful house (Wipe The Needle),driving disco-house (Prospect Park) and breezy piano house (Sean McCabe's 'Italo Piano' mix of Soul Dhamma). As the old clich? goes, this is genuinely "all killer, no filler".

DC LaRue - "Do You Want The Real Thing?" (Ron Basejam's dub) - (6:32) 110 BPM
Review: The Z Records crew is off to the White Isle of Ibiza and they want us to dance along at home - hence this fittingly summery selection of celebratory disco and house gems. There are naturally plenty of recent label highlights (see the cuts from Crackazat and JKriv & Adeline) and a swathe of fine tracks and revisions from boss man Joey Negro. Amongst the many highlights you'll find the celebratory disco brilliance of Bob Sinclar, Dimitri From Paris and Byron Stingily's "Love Is The Answer", the boogie/house/soul fusion of Opolopo's colourful revision of "Searching" by Roberto De Carlo and Dyanna Fearon, the soulful house sweetness of Cookie's "Best Part of Me (Unreleased Original Mix)", and Faze Action's epic, solo-laden, jazz-funk style re-make of Raven Maize classic "Forever Together".

Review: Half the fun of each new Ibiza season is the accompanying DJ mix albums that ensue. Here it's the turn of Z Records' legend, Joey Negro, who compiles and selects Z Records Presents Ibiza 2017. With Joey Negro you know you will always get an expert blend of house and disco, new and old. Here we see exclusives rub shoulders with first time digital virgins. Highlights include Dr Packer's thumping edit of "Change Position (88)" by Brooklyn Express, the hazy bass twangs of "Phantom" by A Band Called Flash and the warm electro of "It's More Fun To Compute" by Negro himself.

Review: With the 2016 Ibiza summer season in full swing, Dave 'Joey Negro' Lee has gathered together a bumper collection of label tracks that are currently doing the business on the White Isle. There are few surprises amongst the 28 selections - think swinging piano-house, soulful grooves, sun-kissed broken beat, contemporary disco reworks and synth-heavy boogie-house - but the quality threshold remains remarkably high throughout. Highlights include Lee's glistening 2016 re-rub of his vintage Doug Willis anthem "Spread Love", a deliciously loose and synth-laden Fouk rework of The Sunburst Band, the bad-ass boogie business of Spirit Catcher's "Rendez-Vous", and a killer 1995 rework of Fonda Rae's "Over Like A Fat Rat" from U.S house legend Victor Simonelli.

Magnum Force - "Cool Out" (Dr Packer mix) - (5:43) 119 BPM
Review: It wouldn't be summer without every house label under the sun releasing an Ibiza-themed compilation. To be fair to Dave Lee's long-running Z Records imprint, they've been delivering White Isle-themed collections every summer for many years. Given that their sound - a blend of funk-fuelled grooves, soulful house, tech-tinged anthems, disco re-edits, boogie revivalism and classic US garage influences - is well suited to sun-drenched alfresco parties, it's little surprise to find that Z Records Presents Ibiza 2015 is rather good. While much of the standout material comes from Lee himself under a variety of guises (check, in particular, the Doug Willis jam "Crystal Lover"), there are also top-notch cuts from Sean McCabe, Opolopo and Fibre Foundation, whose cover of disco/boogie classic "Weekend" is simply superb.

Your Love EP
Easy Love - (5:17) 117 BPM
Review: I Gemin has been busy this year, contributing to compilations and multi-artist EPs from such labels as ISM, Midnight Riot and Editorial. Here the Russian producer strikes out on his own via what we believe to be his first outing on Slightly Transformed. The title track is a great example of his self-proclaimed "intelligent house" approach, combining woozy, sun-kissed soul, disco and jazz-funk samples with occasional filter trickery, a warming bassline and relaxed (and some would say rubbery) house beats. The slightly bolder and more up-tempo "Easy Love" is similarly groovy, with the producer wrapping punchy horn lines, wah-wah guitars, jazzy horns and occasional female vocal snippets above a more rolling house rhythm.

Review: After previous releases on such acclaimed disco labels as Spa In Disco, Rare Wiri, Midnight Riot, Paper Disco and Audaz, Leeds native Andy Buchan (alongside partner-in-crime Conan The Selector) set up his own Hot Gorilla imprint earlier this year. This sixth EP from the label sees him providing two very authentically late 70s-sounding gems, with 'Your Love' a hazy, lazy affair that sports a sensual, breathy female vocal and some understated house-y pianos, while 'Can't Hide' is a more funk-oriented, Latin-tinged near-instrumental cut whose sampled female vocal is buried deep in the mix.

Freno - (6:34) 117 BPM
Review: Brazilian techno master Cohen flexes his funk and disco muscles to great effect here. A fat, throbbing synth bassline underpins the echoing one-line female vocal of the uptempo title track, while another nagging synth, more electro-sounding this time, pulsates its way through most of the instrumental 'Cinderella'. 'Freno' is another looping, hypnotic affair with sci-fi stabs and just a hint of acid, before 'Cleverworld' plays us out on a more cut-up and vaguely experimental tip, though don't worry: it's glitchy, but not enough to scare the horses! If all you know Cohen for is techno, then checking this EP out with open ears and mind is highly recommended.

Review: In recent times, Drop Out Orchestra have moved further towards the worlds of synth-pop and touchy-feely nu-disco. "Your Girl", featuring the vocals of Kinema, continues this journey. While some of their trademarks are present - the rubbery electric bass, disco-flecked guitars, organic sounding percussion etc - the overall impression is of an act attempting to make shimmering, smiling pop music. The Dub wisely makes more use of the original's disco elements, lacing the original's tactile chords atop a guitar-heavy groove. Disturbingly, it also features some needless vocoder vocals. Best of all, though, is Kinema's remix. This offers a sparse and sprightly disco-pop take on the shiny original.

Review: A stylistically varied disco four-tracker here from Spanish scene stalwart Rayko, coming once again on his own Rare Wiri label. The title track is the standout, capturing that early 80s Paradise Garage vibe perfectly - think Glenn Guthrie's 'Padlock' or Whitney's 'Love Will Save The Day' - and is served up in sultry, soulful Cosmic Love Boat Re-Edit and more dubbed-out Magic Boogie Warrior Edit forms. Elsewhere, 'In Love With Love' is a more Euro-sounding affair with an Italo-ish bassline, almost folky fem vox and ear-piercing synths, while 'Need Luv' channels mid-80s boogie, but 'Your Door' is the one.
