Review: he inscrutable artist that is DB1 first appeared in 2012 alongside Martsman, courtesy of the Hidden Hawaii collective, and the producer has been an integral part of the imprint's development ever since. It is now time for an LP from the mystery artist and its name, Zwischenwelt, is as difficult to interpret in the English language as its music is to describe into written words. What we can say is that it's a fresh and singular piece of music that is successfully prolonging the dub techno continuum with the originality that it deserves. If Basic Channel broke down their favoured 4/4 format, it would sound a little bit like "KTZ1" or "Quebe (part 1)", two broken techno bombs with a heartical soul. Tunes like "Zuki" do provide a more techno-minded framework, still rich in half-step movements, while "Jona" will cater to fans of the deep techno sound of artists like Dozzy. All in all, this is not an album to underestimate, and we're pretty confident that you'd be making a mistake by not copping it.
Review: Sprechen is a Manchester based platform to showcase electronic music with a passion for melody, groove, soul and energy. There are no limitations of style and a diverse release policy. For their latest label compilation, the gang celebrates two years in the business - label boss Chris Massey teams up with Spain's James Rod on the funked up nu-disco of "Spanglish" featuring vocals by Danielle Moore, homegirl Gina Breeze serves up some bouncy late night tech house on "Make Me Feel" while Norway's Kohib delivers some true Italo style business on "Hot Pants And Dance Shoes" and Australia's Planet Jumper bring da funk on "Before The Diamond Turns To Dust". Sprechen was launched by former Electric Elephant booker and manager Massey as a side project, alongside his A&R role at Paper Recordings.
Review: Originally discovered by Heinrich Mueller (Dopplereffekt, Drexciya), Federico Leocata is an Athenian electro artist with penchant for the dark side. Following a string of releases on key underground labels he now returns with this long player on Central Processing Unit. Fans of minimal wave and synth pop won't be disappointed as we get nine stark cuts of gimp mask beats and dungeon friendly melodies. Highlights include the sleazy horror-clash of opener "Der Zeitlose Raum", the metaphysical dominatrix vibes of "Metavision" and the Propaganda-on-a-budget pop of "Zunachst" which features the ice-cool vocals of Beta Evers.
Review: Neil Parnell (aka Tronik Youth) has been a staple of London's electro scene for about 10 years now. Lately he's been putting out some seriously fine mixes and re-edits, but here he's just dropped a brand new production. "Zulu Whiskey" is a slowly escalating electro-houser with severe new wave/Balearic leanings - always a good thing in our book. There's plenty of remixes too, including Gemini Brothers' deep and fuzzy italo/cosmic workout and, best of all, the filthy and broken EBM thruster of a mix by man of the moment, Emile Strunz.
