Review: It would be fair to say that Leonidas Deejay has breathed new life into his Alien Disco Sugar project this year. The alias was dormant for two years, but since he dusted it down in May, the London-based Greek producer has offered up a flurry of rather good EPs. There's naturally plenty to get the blood pumping on his latest four-tracker, from the beefed-up, string-laden disco-house release of lead cut "Love Affair" - a suitably celebratory, synth bass-fuelled vocal romp that's available in Radio Edit and Extended Mix forms - to the chunkier, subtly tooled-up disco-funkiness of "Pick It Up & Get Higher", and the Clavinet-sporting, horn-heavy chug of arpeggio-driven closing cut "Saturday Night Boogie".
Review: Although French veteran Ludovic Llorca has previously provided remixes for Z Records, "Flower Child" marks the first time one of his original productions has appeared on Dave Lee's long-serving label. While there are naturally some subtle nods towards Llorca's classic house sound in the track, it's little less than a flash-fried chunk of disco revivalism that brilliantly wraps period instrumentation - crunchy Clavinets, funk-rock style guitar licks, slap bass and sweeping strings - and a soulful lead vocal around live-sounding beats that are guaranteed to get you up and dancing. It's accompanied by a similarly impressive instrumental version, which wile a little less impactful is nevertheless a genuine aural treat.
Review: We're not sure whether Detroit Swindle has previously released anything quite as driving and energetic as "Coffee In The Morning". Although the lead vocal from sometime Tartelet artist Jitwam is worthy of comment, it's the infectious and breathless music that sits beneath - a combination of a low-slung punk-funk bassline, sweaty house beats, addictive electric piano stabs and wild sax lines - that makes the track such a buzzing, caffeine-charged affair. The Dutch duo's accompanying vocal-free "Dub Mix" is rock solid, but it's Prins Thomas's 10-minute "Discomiks" - an ever-growing, pulsating fusion of dub disco sweatiness and jazz-house heaviness, with additional space disco electronics thrown in for good measure - that really sets the pulse racing. In a word: essential.
Review: Budapest-based Pornostar Records is back wth another whopper of a compilation that is the perfect soundtrack to your Summer in quarantine. Funky disco house is the order of the day as per usual, but when it's this good? This is where it is at: poolside! Highlights come from all the label staples you have come to know and love: homeboys Crazibiza get properly low slung and sleazy on a number of tracks, collaborating with the likes of Greg Note, House Of Prayers and Charles J, but we have to admit that we were suckers for that very familiar mid-noughties pop hook on "Freak Like". Speaking of Charles J, he was in fine form on the evocative Afro house journey "Is It Right" among others, while there are also a few contributions from Block & Crown. They are really in their element on the collaboration with Fernando Lopez "Are You Ready To Dance" (Club mix) - a roaring vocal house anthem if we've ever heard one.
Review: A warm welcome back to sometime Wonder Stories, Silhouette Music and Roam Recordings artist Jac The Disco, who here returns to the Spin On This label, which is the artists very own imprint. It's a suitably strong EP all told, with two solid 'JTD' originals being backed by similarly strong remixes. Opener 'Manglik' is a metronomic, chugging affair, with Jac The Disco peppering a throbbing, Mororder style arpeggio bassline with rising and falling synthesizer melodies and spacey electronic flourishes. Eric Duncan piles on the wide-eyed chords and synthesizer sounds on his excellent remix, while "Goddess" is a much more spacey and cosmic chunk of pulsating electronic disco. Arguably even better is Juan Maclean's accompanying rework, which gives the track a bigger, more acid-flecked feel.
Review: According to the exuberant press blurb accompanying this debut release, the Bonfido Disques label has a "vision towards nostalgic exotic disco and Afro-Cosmic house remakes". In practice, that means a floor-focused mixture of chunky, housed-up, dub-flecked Afrobeat (Panama Cardoon's defiantly peak-time ready opener "Olofufu"), canny rearrangements of bouncy South African kwaito/bubblegum fusion (Fixed Angles' "Tabou"), bass-heavy jazz-house re-imaginings of Afro-Cuban jazz classics (Sirhan's superb "Le Flute"), and drum machine powered Afro-synth shufflers (the mid-80s Mediterranean flavours of "Anole" by Chico and Bianca). It all adds up to an impressive debut packed with cheery, imaginative, off-kilter edits that you'd be wise to check out.

Review: This is not the first compilation to drop whose sole aim is to raise funds for NHS Chartities Together - R&S Records and Bass Agenda both delivered similarly epic sets - but "Care4Life" may well be the strongest and most diverse. As you'd expect, each one of the 45 tracks is previously unreleased, and the cast list reads like a who's who of dance music culture. Notable highlights include an ultra-deep, saucer-eyed number from Daniel Avery, an unheard rework of the Chemical Brothers' "Catch Me I'm Falling", a superb revision of Harvey's Locussolus project by Kiwi, Matthew Herbert in jazzy broken beat mode, a rare solo outing from Optimo's JD Twitch, a rip-roaring rave workout from Jas Shaw, and thumping peak-time bangers from Dusky, Eats Everything and Patrick Topping.
Review: Still relatively new to the label game, Rollover outta Milan, Italy, follow up their Friends Against Coronavirus fundraiser compilation from earlier this year by debuting Ferrari's Nene EP. Packed with a shiney The Juan Maclean remix, Ferrari channels reinforced disco beats alongside melodic synth action, cowbell percussion and western motifs in its title-track. Funky, subdued basslines take over from the bleepy progression and space pongs of "Dopium", with "Talk" the heaviest bassline of them all, given a slightly thinned out mix by New York disco legend The Juan Maclean. Rollover Red Rover.
Review: During their golden patch between 2015 and 2017, Soul of Hex released well-regarded material on Quintessentials, Defected offshoot DFTD and, most notably, Freerange. It seems fitting then that their first new single in two years should appear on the latter label's on-point Delusions of Grandeur offshoot. It's a typically excitable, all-action affair, with the Mexican twosome variously offering up savagely cut-up, low-slung punk-funk/house fusion ("Disco Permanente"), starry, slap-bass-propelled deep house warmth ("Polygon Alpha Funk" featuring Cornelius SA), madcap, off-the-wall disco-house loop-funk ("Drum Fantasy"), heavily percussive nu-disco/Afro-house fusion ("Punch", featuring More Lotion), and tactile, disco-tinged Balearic deep house goodness ("Psychic").
Review: Vintage Music chief Sunner Soul invites us to saddle up for another gallop through the funkier and more soulful end of the peak-time disco spectrum. He begins with a chopped-up, gently housed-up bounce through Hamilton Bohannon's most famous tune (the "Start II Dance" rework "Do It All Night"), before whipping his shirt off and dancing topless through the extra-percussive orchestral disco rush of "To The Top". Elsewhere, "When The Night" is a deeper, jazzier and sunnier disco shuffler, "Society of Soul" is swirling, beefed-up take on a much-loved Matsubara classic, and "CTS Funk" is a languid, loved-up disco-soul number.
Review: Having recently notched up a sixth year in business, Fingerman's Hot Digits imprint is in a celebratory mood - hence this all-action round-up of recent delights and unheard treats from the disco-loving label. Encompassing no less than 30 tunes, the collection giddily skips between warming beatdown disco (P-Sol's "Walter"), Mark E style slo-mo loop jams (Vigi's "I'll Be There") and glassy-eyed Balearic nu-disco (Picklejam's "Untitled Love"), before raising its hands skywards as the peak-time party-starters begin to appear thick and fast. Highights in this category include the vibrant jazz-house flex of Dexter Jones' "Swing Thing", the bustling boogie re-edit business of Monsieur Von Pratt's "Let's Dance" and the hearty disco-funk heaviness of Chewy Rubs' "Funky Bee Bop".
Review: Maurice Fulton has made plenty of awesome records over the years, including a string of superb full-length sets as Boof. Here he returns with his first album under the alias for five years, and as you'd expect it's a belter. In line with its predecessors, Fulton delivers a swathe of ear-pleasing numbers laden with colourful synthesizer sounds, jazzy electric piano stabs, opaque chords and rubbery bass guitar. There are of course interesting and oddball diversions amongst the more straightforward house jams that are tricky to accurately describe - see "Ana's F Is Chillin", the intoxicating and exotic "Japanese Indian Shrimp Curry" and the kaleidoscopic space jazz that is the brilliant title track - and a handful of ultra-percussive peak-time beasts (see "Luam Has Found Her Z").
Review: Remarkably, three decades have now passed since Dave Lee AKA Joey Nergo inaugurated his label, Z Records. To mark the occasion, Lee has compiled this suitably epic, 44-track retrospective. There are plenty of big tunes and underground anthems present- see Jakatta's "American Dream", Raven Maize's "The Real Life", The Sunburst Band's "Everyday" and Doug Willis's "Spread Love" - as well as some of the veteran DJ/producer's favourite catalogue cuts and some slept-on gems. Throw in a string of memorable remixes - think Ame's remix of Akabu's "Phuture Bound", Grant Nelson's vintage rub of Z Factor's "Gotta Keep Pushin" and Joey Negro's revision of Patrice Rushen disco classic "Haven't You Heard" - and you've got a brilliant retrospective of one of house and disco's most consistent labels. Don't sleep!
Review: Party-starting disco/funk bizniss here courtesy of Alien Disco Sugar, AKA Greek producer Leonidas Deejay. 'Sunshine In', as you may have guessed, is based heavily on The Fifth Dimension's classic 'Let The Sun Shine In' (from the musical 'Hair') and is served in Original and Extended Mix flavas, with the latter the clear pick for club play because it's here that the string stabs and AWB-ish horns really shine through. The NSFW vocal on 'Crank This MF Up!', on the other hand, is of unknown origin, but once paired with the track's lolloping funk groove is guaranteed to get booties shaking out on the floor.
Review: Man of the moment Andy Buchan is back in action, transferring from Citizens of Vice to up-start imprint Hot Gorilla in order to release one of his strongest cuts to date. In its original form, "Higher" is a deliciously bouncy, sun-soaked and thrillingly positive affair. It sees Buchan pepper a baggy and bouncy Balearic disco groove with arms-raised old school piano stabs, colourful synth doodles and a handful of short vocal samples. It's undoubtedly celebratory, as are the accompanying remixes. Pal Conan The Selector brilliantly re-imagines "Higher" as a sweaty fusion of rolling disco house and low-slung, sax-sporting funk, while Fingerman explores similar sonic territory before re-tooling the track as a piano-heavy rave roller in its latter stages.
Review: When it comes to fresh, party-starting fusions of disco, boogie, funk and soul, few contemporary artists are quite as competent as Bomb Strikes regulars Shaka Loves You. Further proof arrives in the shape of the outfit's second single of the year, "Let's Move". In its original form, the track is energetic and exciting, offering a contemporary take on Clavinet-and-horn-heavy disco-funk rich in prominent bass guitar, Nile Rodgers style guitar riffs, rolling beats and looped vocal samples from a well-known 1970s dancefloor workout. The accompanying "SLY Disco Rub" is even heavier and more energetic, delivering a percussion-laden, bass-heavy romp that sits somewhere between dub disco and disco-house.
Review: For his latest trick, spoonerism-loving rework maestro V (AKA sometime funk-breaks producer Valique) has decided to offer up a second selection of "Neo Blues" scalpel works. He begins by delivering a chunky, rolling revision of Ann Feebles' rock-tinged gospel-funk classic "Beware", before chugging his way through a pitched-down revision of a weighty T-Rex glam-rock classic ("Jewelry"). This is followed by EP highlight "Holis", an inspired - and suitably epic - "Afro-blues" revision of one of Nina Simone's greatest moments, and the low-slung voodoo-house hypnotism of "Mississippi Lullalby (V's Rendition)". To finish with a. flourish, the Vehicle main man then adds some elastic new drums to Otis Redding's version of "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay".
Review: With Italy hit hardest by the Coronavirus and lockdown right now, Milan crew, collective and glitterazzi Rollover keeps hope alive! Normally a trusted party for Milano's Apollo club (that's brought the likes of Tiga, Maurice Fulton, Ame and Bambounou to town), Rollover is the place and project for DJ duo and label owners Rocco Fusco & Tiberio Carcano to work their magic. In times of crisis Rollover presents a special initiative via their "ANYTHING GOES" edit service, welcoming voluntary contributions that pay homage to the spirit of Balearic music and beyond! Expect tracks from 2manydjs, Adam Port, Soul Clap, Boombass, Moscoman and Bill Brewster, among many others, with proceeds going to the official emergency fund set up by the Italian Civil Protection Department destined for the COVID-19 crisis in Italy.
Review: Russian born and now Berlin-based Yulia Niko can often be found wowing audiences at her residency for the famous local institution Watergate, in addition to releasing for tastemaker labels such as Get Physical, Hottrax, Rebellion and Subliminal. Not to mention her own imprints TochnoTechno and Libe Vibe. Here she makes her debut for Damian Lazarus' esteemed Crosstown Rebels imprint with the deep and mesmerising arcane energy of "Fatima", which is backed up by the equally spiritual and meditative polyrhythms on "Man From Ubud". If that was not enough, there's also a killer remix by Rominimal maestro Priku, who teams up with homeboy Dinu to increase the energy levels on their powerfully melodic rework.
Review: DJ Mark Brickman arrived in South Beach in late 2000 and has been gracing the ears of house music fans ever since. As a DJ, producer and the current head of Miami's RaMBunktious Records, this veteran of the underground house music scene shows no signs of slowing down - and this new one for Midnight Riot is testament to that. There's a very familiar hook on the funked-up boogie down antics of "A Fifth Of Disco", followed similarly by the sultry, vocal-driven groove of "My Spirit" which is very much reminiscent of a classic. Finally, get stoned into the groove with the low slung "Keep On" which is derived from another oldie - but a goody!
Review: Krafty Kuts & Bomb Strikes, two names that when combined leave us with potentially incredible results. They join forces here to curate and design the fifth edition of 'Bass Funk', showcasing some of the most prominent faces across the entire breadth of breaks. The tracklisting for this one looks pretty monstrous, featuring the likes of A Skillz, Dubra, Arteo, Fort Knox Five, K+Lab & more. There are a couple of immediate stand outs however, with the latin horn melodies and vibrant rhythms of Ninjula's 'Spanish Princess' and the pure rawcus devilry of 'AI' from the legendary Delta Heavy both standing out!

Review: As you'd expect, there's plenty to set the pulse racing on the latest multi-artist edition of Let's Play House's "LPH White" series. Label co-founder Jacques Renault sets the tone via the lolloping, bass-heavy filter-house bump of "No Strings Attached", where swirling orchestration gently rises to prominence over a bustling groove, before Kirsty Harper whips out her Roland TB-303 and lays down some seriously sleazy, Phuture style acid-jack. Laroze's "You Inspired Me" is a throbbing, filter-sporting romp through disco-house territory enlivened greatly by layered drums, while Keita Sano's "Party Vibes" successfully manipulates some superb samples in cahoots with a typically weighty and thickset house groove.
Review: The fifth volume in Peppermint Jam's popular "Allstars" EP series hits home hard from the start, as DJ Meme and Brazilian legend Marcos Valle join forces to re-imagine sweaty Azymuth classic "Jazz Carnival" as a driving chunk of celebratory house mayhem. Lovebirds is up next with "The Path 2011", a similarly percussive workout that makes great use of steel band melodies and warm, deep disco bass. Matthias "Matty" Helibronn then gives a Teddy Pendergrass classic the re-edit treatment (albeit with the addition of some tasty new drums and a few well-placed filter sweeps), while The Reflex steals the show with an organ-heavy multi-track remix of Mandrill's 1972 funk shuffler "Ape Is High" (here re-named "Ape's Back In Town").
Review: Jared Philip's recent sophomore album as Jex Opolis, "Net Worth", was rightly praised for its canny combination of ear-catching synth-pop, chunky proto-house and colourful boogie revivalism. This equally as impressive partner release gathers together tracks that didn't quite make the cut and alternative mixes, all of which are up to Philip's usual high standard. Highlights include the deep, bubbly and spacey synth-pop shuffle of "Dubsystem", deliciously tough and stripped-back "Dub Mix" version of high energy/Italo-disco workout "The Bottom", and the acid-flecked glory of "Jexendirekt", a slab of late night dancefloor gold smothered in foreboding riffs, poignant chords and bustling, arpeggiated bass.

Review: Toolroom's Poolside annual returns for 2020 in a big way, welcoming Alex Preston to the Toolroom Family, who has hand picked the finest in house and disco across two continuous mixes, including essential cuts and exclusives from industry veterans and newcomers alike. Highlights comes from Dutch trio Kraak & Smaak who become right disco Stus on "Aftersun", boss man Mark Knight shows us exactly what uplifting house truly sounds like on the massive "If It's Love" featuring Laura Davie & The Melody Men, as does label staple Weiss on the joyous funky house of "You're Sunshine". Elsewhere, Robsoul head honcho Phil Weeks gets loopy on his typically jazzy kind of something called "Good To You" and the mandatory banger comes from legends Green Velvet & Technasia on the funked-up "Suga" while a classic comes in the form of Sterling Void's "It's Alright" (DJ Spen & Reelsoul remix).
Review: On his latest re-edit missive, Rayko invites us to hop aboard the "Last Train To 80's", an express service calling at three memorable stops on route. The first of those is the title track, a synth-heavy slab of wide-eyed '80s soul/synth-pop fusion rich in squelchy bass, delay-laden machine drums, clipped guitar riffs and the dreamiest of chords and melodies. The express hits top speed before the second scheduled stop, which is marked by the surging Bobby Orlando-meets-colourful-Italo-disco strut of "Machinery". A memorable journey draws to a close via "Change Your Mind", a tidy, dub mix style re-edit of an especially percussive '80s synth-pop jam that looks set to cause serious damages to dancefloors when clubs finally re-open.
Review: Well, it seems to be every week that we welcome a brand new drop from the Four40 team this year, however this latest drop is something truly special as the veteran imprint celebrates nine years of activity with a scintillating selection, showcasing some of their most important roster members over the years. The tracklisting is vast, featuring a colossal 51 tracks from the likes of Vital Techniques, Mistakay, PVC, Enigma Dubz, Tuff Culture, Earthnut and more. With such a stacked release, picking highlights is pretty tough, but for us the two stand outs boil down to super spooky drum twists and moody textures of 'You Or Me' from ZeroFG, alongside the classic Skepsis remix of 'VIP', originally featuring Hybrid Theory and Trilla.
Review: Since 2014, Frankfurt producer Shan has offered up regular missives on Running Back, with each successive EP exploring different sonic territory to its predecessor whilst retaining a strong retro-futurist feel. His latest offering is undeniably eclectic in its dancefloor-focused approach, with Shan variously turning his hand to percussion-heavy jack tracks (the sweat-soaked heaviness of "Schlagzeug"), Italo-disco/80s Euro-house fusion (opener "Stuck 4"), Bobby Orlando-style Hi-NRG ("Valentino"), mix 1980s Shep Pettibone dubs of synth-pop cuts (the rather brilliant "Holzboden") and stylish, synth-laden cosmic disco wildness (EP closing throb-job "Video 83"). As you'd expect, there's a stripped-back authenticity to the sound and production that captures the raw energy and feel of the vintage music that inspired him (albeit with the kind of low-end weight associated with heavily compressed 21st century dance music).
Review: As Cole Odin emerges as a producer we've got to know from the San Francisco area who once appeared on Golf Channel compilation in 2015, he now brings some extra attention to the eclectics label with this new EP. Using looping, motorik momentum and endlessly inventive guitar motifs to create a sonic landscape that's satisfyingly familiar yet littered with signposts to new and exotic destinations, one can't help but hear flashes of The XX through to Stereolab's "Simple Headphone Mind". Take in Bristol remixer DJ Jack Priest for something spiralling and Italo alongside Adam Warped's folkier remix, and you have that perfect blend of the organi and traditional with the surreal. Happy days.
Review: All time great Alkalino looks to the headlines for a Dark Room Scandal! Sending in deeper house vibes for this three-track release, there's a playful spirit to the dark side of this EP. "Orson Welles" sees the slightest of disco influences maintained in the track's percussion alongside deeper basslines, melodies and tripped out vocals. Dubby bassline house is paired with starry synths loops in "Dancing With Somebody", with the title-track doubling down on its clap-track, industrial atmospheres and suspenseful strings. Alkalino goes deep.
Review: Katakana Edits first compilation, 2017's "Crate Diggin", was an epic collection of high-grade re-edits, mash-ups and reworks packed to the rafters with tried-and-tested dancefloor treats. This belated follow-up is even more epic, with the popular label squeezing in no less than 50 tracks that variously touch on riotous disco-funk, dub disco, new wave, disco-rock, deep funk, Afro-boogie, swamp funk, Latin beats, boogie, pitched-down chuggers, boogaloo, hip-hop and everything in between. You'd expect that standard to be high - it is a "best of" collection after all - and it is. If you need an instant armoury of scintillating club cuts, look no further.
Review: It's that time of the year again as we welcome back the wonderful Night Bass crew for the 10th edition of their 'This Is Night Bass' series, featuring some of the biggest and most popular names the scene has to offer. The tracklist boasts a fabulous combination of established talent and newcomers, as we see the likes of Taiki Nulight, NuBass, Dommix, The Sponges, CAPOZZi, Sage Armstrong, Sqwad and more join forces to create a sumptuous collection. Our highlights have to include Riddim Commission's super smooth 'In My Soul', alongside the groovy horns of 'Funky Soul', from Nicky Genesis, Jace Mek's techy influxes on 'Bring It Back' and the stripped back debut of Tengu with 'Bad Girls'.
Review: Despite hailing from the frozen wilds of Siberia, Sunner Soul has always offered up music - be it re-edits, unlicensed reworks or original productions - that tends towards the warm, sunny and summery. He's at it again here, heading up a shared EP with the mysterious Sunshine Disco Club (most likely another alias of the same producer) that bristles with smiling positivity from start to finish. Of his three cuts, we're particularly enjoying the life-affirming piano solos and jazzy good-time grooves of "Skyline Boulevard" and the heady disco release of "Insurance Policy", where effects-laden orchestration clusters around a fizzing, hot-to-trot groove. The Sunshine Disco Club then takes over with the sumptuous, soft-touch 80s soul/synth-wave goodness of "Space Jam", before skipping through piano-house/80s electrofunk fusion on the rather fine "System Mode".
Review: As ever, the Nipponeer Japan crew have outdone themselves with this one as they welcome back The Darrow Chem Syndicate for an exclusive remix project by the name of 'Not For Resale'. First up, we hear Kid Panel provide us with an excellent, euphoric rethink of the wonderful 'Bounce Of Thunder', which is then chased up closely by Kuplay, who unleashes some super groovy energy and vibrant rhythmic design into his overhaul of 'Hahppy'. Next up, Mob Ties & Mr. Moozit get involved for a cheeky, break-heavy edit of 'Aznable Gimmick' before we finish up with Rory Hoy, who goes to town on 'Cowper's Cooper', unleashing wave after wave of lofi drumwork and crunchy samples to see us out in style.
Review: We were rather impressed by Flevans recent album "Accumlate" - his fifth in total over a career spanning almost two decades - and in particular its inherent funkiness and effortlessly soulful flavour. Here one of the LP standouts, "Realisation" with vocalist Laura Vane, is given the remix treatment. The EP-opening "Re-Tide Mix" brilliantly joins the dots between funk-fuelled disco-house and colourful, synth-heavy boogie, while Lonely Boy's "Isolation Mix" is a deliciously loose-limbed breakbeat revision that gives due prevalence to track's insanely funky bassline and jaunty Rhodes keys. You'll also find full-length and radio versions of Supermini's hot-to-trot remix, which may well be the funkiest and freshest of the lot.
Review: Album number six here from the northeast of England's finest neo-soul combo Smoove & Turrell. Coming like all five of its predecessors on the mighty Jalapeno Records, 'Stratos Bleu' sees the Gateshead gang exploring a slightly wider range of musical territory: 'This Time', for instance, operates at a soulful house tempo, while 'E.P.' has an almost Underworld-ish, indie-dance kinda feel. Synths n' samples play a more prominent role than on previous albums, too - though John Turrell's distinctive tonsils remain front and centre at all times, so existing fans needn't worry too much!
Review: We're not quite sure who Wilson Knickit is, but we adore the re-editor, remixer and producer's tongue-in-cheek alias. Here he joins forces with pal Sir Funk for a first outing on the reliable Particle Zoo Recordings label. There's much to get the juices flowing throughout, from the driving nu-disco/funky house fusion of opener "Sunshine" and the tooled-up disco-funk flex of Indeep-sampling workout "In The Mix", to the glistening synthesizer lead lines, tactile grooves and wide-eyed wonder of Italo-influenced nu-disco gem "Fall For You". These original tracks are accompanied by a swathe of remixes, with our picks including Paper Street Soul's eyes-closed, guitar solo-laden re-imagining of "Sunshine" and Don Dayglow's tongue-in-cheek electro-disco flip of "In The Mix".
Review: The latest edition of the the Sum compilation series features a mixture of established and upcoming producers. First up are The Reason Y and T?mas Sinn, who deliver the tough, reverberating groove of "Trip Tales". Meanwhile another emerging act, Risa Taniguchi, impresses with the deep, tunnelling techno of "She" and Eme Kulhnek drops the mesmerising, hypnotic groove of "Efforts". Mindful of electronic music's rich heritage, Second State has also commissioned some of Europe's most established artists to contribute to this edition; Quenum drops the clicky minimalism of "Fact Action" and on "Zurich" the veteran producer Secret Cinema, combines gritty drums with atmospherics to devastating effect.
