Strings For Life EP
Strings For Life - (6:50) 122 BPM
School Daze - (5:52) 120 BPM Hot
Sophisticated Funk - (4:57) 120 BPM
Review: Oliver Dollar, a Berlin-based artist who first appeared on Rekids as a remixer in 2012, has returned to Radio Slave's label with his 'Strings for Life' EP. The EP's title track begins with rich and stirring strings that add soul to the track. The song is warm, euphoric, and built on a rocksteady disco groove, making it both familiar and classic. 'School Daze' is a loopy track with funky bass, jazzy chords, and timeless house drums topped off with a retro vocal sample. The EP's final track, 'Sophisticated Funk,' features an epic, emotive beatdown, and Dollar doubles down on the disco. Oliver Dollar brings a very different sound to Rekids with this EP, which is full of joyous and lush tunes.

Looking In EP
Your Distraction - (4:01) 124 BPM
Sleazy (Nenor remix) - (5:00) 122 BPM
Review: Underground System, a quintet based in Brooklyn makes a comeback on local label Razor-N-Tape with their impressive five-track release called "The Looking In EP." This release offers a unique fusion of Balearic grooves, left-field funk, and up-tempo backbeats that showcase the distinct US sound. The band's signature use of flute and synth soundscapes, driving percussion, and catchy vocal hooks is prominent in all tracks, ensuring a groovy and captivating listening experience. Furthermore, RNT regulars Nenor and Clive From Accounts have contributed two club-ready remixes, taking the tracks to even greater heights of dancefloor appeal

Work My Body - (6:13) 124 BPM Hot
The Piano Track - (4:24) 124 BPM
Review: The summer of rave has landed and Demuja is here with Higher Places, a producer found on imprints like Skylax Classic, Shall Not Fade, Freerange and more. For his Aus Music debut he brings back a familiar rave motif to a banging new rendition of drums in "Work My Body". Next is a deeper, liquid club cut that is "Deep Inside Your Soul" with its classic pano effect while Demuja pays house music homage with "That Piano Track" - obviously. Closing the EP is a collaborative number with Kolter called "Bonzai" that's peppered with a techier and minimal sound, let's say from that Higher Place.

Vault Sessions 2
Felica Williams - "The Time Is Now" (Old School mix) - (6:51) 122 BPM
Larry Heard - "Premonition Of Lost Love" (feat Ona King - Jordan & Kevin's Zanzibar dub) - (5:45) 124 BPM
Larry Heard - "Andromeda One" - (6:48) 123 BPM
Mr Fingers - "Mystery Of Love" (DJ Mel ReGentryfication) - (5:33) 124 BPM Hot
Review: Although the first instalment of Larry Heard's 'Vault Sessions' series of EPs featuring rare and hard-to-find material specifically showcased tracks he produced in 1988, there's no rigid concept behind this sequel - but plenty of must-have gems from the deep house legend's bulging archive. The EP opens with 'The Time Is Now (Old School Mix)', a Heard-produced Felicia Williams single of old that's typically deep and sensual, before the Chicagoan offers Jordan Fields and Kevin Elliot's Club Zanzibar New Jersey-inspired 1995 dub of 'Premonition of Love'. Elsewhere, 'Andromeda Dub' sees Heard meld deep house, dub and sci-fi synth sounds, while DJ Mel's revision of all-time-classic 'Mystery of Love' is a rolling, percussive treat.

Tigerbalm & Farafi - "Nina" - (6:31) 123 BPM Hot
Tigerbalm & Farafi - "Nina" (Elado remix) - (6:56) 123 BPM
Tigerbalm & Farafi - "Nina" (Voilaaa remix) - (4:49) 123 BPM
Review: Following on from the release of her debut album last year and its 'Remixes' counterpart in May, Rose Robinson AKA Tigerbalm now returns with two fresh tracks that once again showcase female vocalists from around the world. 'Nina' finds her collaborating with transnational duo Farafi, while the accompanying 'Sisters' is graced by pan-African supergroup Les Amazones d'Afrique. Both tracks are rooted firmly in traditional African music, with 'Nina' a percussive, chanted affair while 'Sisters' has a more lilting, singsong kinda vibe, but 'Nina' also gets a brace of more house-oriented remixes courtesy of Tel Aviv's Elado (a Razor-N-Tape regular) and Bruno Hovart's Voilaaa project.

Good Time Girls - (7:14) 124 BPM Hot
On The Floor - (7:17) 124 BPM
Too Deep - (7:33) 120 BPM
Review: Boise, Idaho native returns to Rare Wiri with three cuts that are probably best described as "homages" to classic tracks - they're certainly not just straight-up re-edits but whether they're sample-based or essentially covers isn't entirely clear. Either way, if you ever had any love for Donna Summer's 'Bad Girls', Michael Jackson's 'Get On The Floor' and/or Dead Or Alive's 'In Too Deep' but felt they were in a need of a more contemporary make-over, then guess what, you're in luck! 'Good Time Girls' leads the charge for yours truly but the echoing, dubbed-out production on 'Too Deep' deserves a shout too.

DJ Kaos Chronicles with Daniel Wang, Erlend Oye, Solomun, Dr Dunks, Jolene and The Glimmer Twins
Dangerous Dan & Nicky Night Time - "Mystery" (edit by DJ Kaos) - (7:02) 122 BPM Hot
I Want To Be There (Solomun remix) - (6:43) 120 BPM
Spiral Jetty (Glimmers mix) - (7:35) 122 BPM
Horny Morning Loop (Dr Dunks Kaotic mix) - (9:07) 124 BPM
Review: It may be an 'odds and ends' release, featuring as it does a mixture of originals, remixes and edits, but DJ Kaos's latest offering is packed to the rafters with high-grade gear. Kaos first offers up his disco sample-heavy edit of Dangerous Dan and Nicky Night Time's 'Mystery' before we're treated to Solomun's hypnotic-but-loose-limbed early morning revision of Kaos's 'I Want To Be There'. His tweak of Daniel Wang and Erland Oye hook-up 'Lessons' is a hybrid deep house meets drowsy nu-disc affair, while 'Only Dead Men Are Free' is a fine fusion of Patrick Cowley style Hi-NRG grooves and elements of country classic 'Jolene'. To round things off, we get two top remixes: the Glimmers' throbbing, wide-eyed sprint through 'Spiral Jetty', and extended Dr Dunks disco-meets-acid house revision of 'Horny Morning Loop'.

JB Dizzy - "Strange World" - (5:38) 124 BPM
Review: Arriving just in time for the summer season, Hot Digits delivers a compilation that is tailor made to soundtrack lazy, hazy days. Even Funkier's "Feel So Good Inside" is an irresistible, funk-fuelled disco groove, while Ben Jamin's "Handle" inhabits a similar space. Soaked in wailing guitar and soulful vocals, it's a wonderfully infectious track. Both Andy Buchan and P-Sol raise the tempo with string-filled disco workouts, while Fray Bentos' "Danced To Death" offers a more electronic take on this sound. The compilation does veer towards house on occasion - most impressively with the subtle drum builds and chord progressions on Down Under Disco's "On My Mind". In the main though, Year Nine impresses most when it draws on disco and funk influences, such as the raucous party jam that is label owner Fingerman's collaboration with Chewy Rubs, "Block Party Bad Boy".

Devil's Hands
Devil's Hands (Anthony Middleton remix) - (8:56) 123 BPM
Review: It's been quite a journey for Nicolas Blistene and Kate Elsworth AKA Lunar Disco, who initially emerged from the Parisian house scene before relocating to Australia some years back. Here they deliver their highest profile release to date, landing on Crosstown Rebels with the moody-but-rubbery 'Devil's Hands'. Their original mix is undeniably intoxicating, with Elsworth's atmospheric lead vocals rising above bouncy beats, moody electronics, Spaghetti Western guitar licks and warm bass. They join forces with TAYA to deliver their own deep, wonky, stripped-back and mind-mangling tech-house club mix, while Luciano delivers a spacey and heady tech-powered take. Best of all, though, is Anthony Middleton's revision, which makes superb use of some twisted TB-303 'acid' lines and ghostly melodies.

Feel This - (7:28) 120 BPM
Review: Former Naughty But Nice man Chewy Rubs teams up with another unsung hero of the UK scene, Travski, for this four-tracker on his own Bandolier label - with impeccable results. 'Jellybean' gets the ball rolling with throbbing synth-bass and rap vocal bites from LL Cool J's 'I'm Bad' and Dr Octagon AKA Kool Keith's 'Bear Witness', after which there's more party-hearty cut-up action on 'Contra D'. We then drop down into a deeper groove for 'Feel This Dub', a bassy slow-burner topped with synth-strings and indecipherable, barely-there vocal snips, and stay there for the jazzier 'Feel This', which rocks the house-eulogising diva vocal from Antoine Clamaran & D-Plac's 'Get Up'.

Review: Columbian producer Felipe Gordon joins forces with Belgian artist Krewcial in an exciting collaborative EP, immersing listeners into their shared sonic universe. Inspired by their mutual passion for cycling, this EP takes you on a thrilling journey through various textures and terrains, transcending into moments of luminosity while delving into deep atmospheres. The EP commences with "1972", a captivating opening that blends intricate percussion with a compelling, driving bassline, akin to conquering steep hills during a cycling expedition. Next up is "Dying", featuring uplifting choir vocals that infuse a gospel-inspired sensibility into the undeniably funky bassline. Following is "Answer", navigating between clean and satisfying kick drums, interspersed with sharp snares while Session Victim is offering a beautifully ethereal reinterpretation.

Jamie 3:26 & Danou P - "Love Not" - (11:07) 120 BPM Hot
Jamie 3:26 & Danou P - "Earl Montana" - (9:14) 122 BPM
Review: Jamie 3:26 may have first found fame as a DJ, re-editor and remixer, but over the last few years he's delivered some killer original productions too - often in cahoots with collaborators. Chief amongst those is fellow Rotterdam resident Danou P, who fittingly features on two of the three tracks on show here. The pair begin in deliciously deep, spacey and loved-up form on 'Love Not', where drifting chords and gentle melodies rise above a bubby bassline, simmering synth-strings and tactile arpeggio lines, before opting for a Montana Sextet-goes-deep house flex on the funky brilliance of 'Earl Montana'. To round things off, the Chicagoan joins forces with the effervescent Mr Scruff on 'Scrubb It', a properly dubbed-out, analogue-rich chunk of proto-house packed to the rafters with mad noises, Latin percussion and wayward electronics.

Tracer - "Love Fantasy" (Dirty Channels edit) - (5:25) 124 BPM Hot
Review: Nu Groove shines a spotlight on the musical geniuses who transformed the renowned NYC label into a must-have for crate diggers, both in the past and today. Their crucial tracks undergo a contemporary reimagining by present-day industry trendsetters and discerning tastemakers. To kick things off, Metro's 'Turnstyle Turbulance' gets a remix treatment from the skilled Italian duo NiCe7, infusing it with enchanting vibes and transforming it into an auditory joyride. Following suit, the classic house anthem 'APT. 2B' by N.Y. House'n Authority (aka the alter ego of Rheji Burrell) receives a rejuvenating touch from remix expert Mark Broom, giving the track a new lease on its funky life. Fasten your dancing shoes because 'Love Fantasy' by Tracer, the brainchild of Luie Rivera and the legendary Paradise Garage DJ Joey Llanos, undergoes a stylish makeover by Dirty Channels. These Italian maestros know how to add an extra layer of spice to an already scorching track. And if that weren't enough, the dynamic duo Honey Dijon & Luke Solomon bring their musical expertise to Rheji Burrell's 'Guitarz' as Asylum, concluding this sonic escapade with a flourish.

Review: It's been over 15 years since this writer was one of 100 or so who gathered in a sweaty, low-raftered Amsterdam basement to witness the live debut of Dutch funk and disco hopefuls Kraak & Smaak. Since then, the young pretenders have gone on to become true elder statesmen of the scene - which is another way of saying that you just KNOW the quality bar on this latest collection of contemporary disco, funk and boogie grooves is going to be set high. There's no room here to go into all 24 tracks one-by-one, but with contributions from the likes of Ben Gomori, Flevans and Hotmood alongside a host of more up-and-coming names, suffice to say lovers of the aforementioned styles will not be in the least bit disappointed.

Review: Roman Flugel has made many terrific records over the last three decades, though we can't think of many that are quite as joyful and rushing as 'Lucky Charm', a surging piano house number full of pots-and-pans percussion, layered keyboard solos, hands-in-the-air riffs, classic house bass and unfussy drum machine beats. His accompanying dub mix successfully strips the track back while adding some restless, relentless cowbell lines (never a bad thing), while Perc's short-and-sweet revision re-imagines the track as a bouncy, tribal house number. Of the bonus cuts on offer, we're particularly enjoying the wayward house/techno fusion of 'Luv Amour' and the exotic downtempo shuffle of 'Film 4'.

Review: A solo outing here for the mysterious Disco Incorporated, who is/are more often found on joint releases with Ministry Of Funk. The 'Love Disco & Funk' EP comprises five cuts that you can file under 're-edits' or 'homage tracks' as you see fit: yes, they're all based on famous tracks from days gone by (from The Trammps, The Jacksons, The Rolling Stones, Odyssey and James Brown), but it should be pointed out that in most cases, a fair bit more imagination/creativity has gone into them than the average re-edit. Which makes this well worth investigating, despite the very familiar sources.

Review: Number three in a series whose title was self-explanatory to start with, so you should have a pretty good idea what's going on here as re-editor par excellence Alkalino makes free with 11 more nuggets from days of yore. Getting the treatment this time are Prince's '1999', Michael Jackson's 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough', Dire Straits' 'So Far Away', Rocksteady Crew's 'Hey You', Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing', King's 'Love And Pride', Visage's 'Move Up', The Smiths' 'Bigmouth Strikes Again', The Stranglers' 'Always The Sun' and a couple of unidentified cuts (one of which sounds like it might be The Human League while the other has a Front 242/Meat Beat Manifesto-like feel)... some surprising sources there for sure, but they're all handled with Alkalino's trademark aplomb so listen with open ears!

Review: Lino Rodrigues, better known as re-editor extraordinaire Alkalino, takes us on another trip down Memory Lane to the 1980s. Coming under the scalpel for a spot of cosmetic surgery this time out are (in order) Prince's 'Gett Off', Laura Branigan's 'Self Control', Oran 'Juice' Jones's 'The Rain', Madonna's 'Everybody', Marillion's 'Kayleigh', AR Kane's 'A Love From Outer Space', Prefab Sprout's 'When Love Breaks Down' and Kajagoogoo's 'Too Shy'. It's an eclectic selection for sure, and which tracks hit hardest for you will probably depend on how you feel about the originals, but give all of 'em a whirl because some of the reworks are quite radical in approach. And yes, we known 'Gett Off' is from 1991 but let's not get pedantic, eh?

Review: George Kelly's Athens-based Chopshop celebrate 15 years in the game with this best-of compilation that takes in cuts from the likes of Groove Armada (via Greg Wilson), Situation, Andy Bach, Bodie Lee, HP Vince and more, many of which - as is entirely in keeping with the label's name, of course - draw heavily on source material from the past. Dave Leatherman & Bruce Nolan kick us off with 'Sunny Side Up', which reworks Osibisa's 'Sunshine Day', and from there on out it's basically a non-stop disco/disco-house riot, with Bodie Lee paying tribute to Inner City on 'Let Me Take You Dancer', Wild Cherry chopped and looped to glorious effect by Delly on 'Movin' To The Groovin' and Alejandro Maria stealing the day with 'A Lot To Live For', which should really be called 'Stabs To Die For'.

Review: In 2003, amid a shifting landscape of closing record stores and evolving electronic music genres, Phonica Records emerged as a haven for dance and electronic music enthusiasts. Founded by Simon Rigg, Tom Relleen, and Heidi Van Den Amstel with backing from The Vinyl Factory - Phonica aimed to be a welcoming hub for all genres. Starting quietly, the shop gradually gained a strong reputation, fueled by the founders' ties to Koobla Records. Phonica thrived in its early years by championing emerging genres like electro house and minimal-micro house from labels like Kompakt and Perlon. In 2007, the Phonica record label was born, evolving into a platform for both staff and emerging talents, featuring early releases by now-established artists such as Peggy Gou and Four Tet. In 2023, celebrating its 20th anniversary, Phonica showcases its journey with 20 Years Of Phonica - a compilation boasting 18 exclusive tracks from established and rising artists across the label's diverse musical spectrum. Hot tips include tracks by Willow, Dorisburg, Ron Basejam, Roman Flugel and more!

Review: Glitterbox knows how to throw a party, and "Glitterbox Archives Vol 4" proves it once again. This EP collects four previously unreleased, dancefloor-tested gems, each offering a unique flavour of the label's signature sound. Kicking off with a bang is The Shapeshifters' "Try My Love (On For Size) (The Rub Dub)". This extended version of the already infectious disco anthem dives deeper into its groove, layering dubby effects and pulsating basslines that will have you moving right away. Next up, Michael Gray and Kelli Sae's "You're Gonna Make Me Dub Somebody Else" takes things down a notch. The "dub" moniker lives up to its name, stripping away some of the original's funk elements and emphasizing the hypnotic rhythm section. Kelli Sae's sultry vocals remain captivating, while the dub treatment creates a more introspective and atmospheric aura. Art Of Tones & Inaya Day's "Give My Love (Piano Dub)" is a revelation. This stripped-down version showcases the song's beautiful piano melody and Inaya Day's powerful vocals in a whole new light. Rounding out the EP is Qwestlife's "Hit It Off (Babert Remix)". Italian house maestro Babert injects his signature energy into the track, transforming it into a driving house anthem. Teni Tinks' vocals are chopped and looped, adding a playful touch to the infectious groove. This one is sure to get the crowd moving and leave them wanting more. A sparkly feast for disco devotees!

That's Right - (7:04) 120 BPM Hot
Review: Having spent much of 2023 marking the 10th birthday of their popular Heist Recordings imprint, Dam Swindle have not had much time to showcase new music. This three track EP of all-new material is therefore a very welcome development. Predictably, they're on the spot from the word go, wrapping filtered string sounds, hazy horn samples and sustained organ chords around a warming disco bassline and layered disco-house beats on 'That's Right'. Title track 'Minor Fools' follows, offering a blend of sweat-soaked deep house beats, rubbery synth-bass and sun-soaked chords, before the popular Dutch duo round off another strong EP via the tactile and huggable, disco-sampling sweeps of 'Soul's Lament'. It's arguably the EP's most impactful moment - and that's saying something.

Review: After a string of acclaimed Eps on Tale of Us' label, Anyma now delivers Genesys, his debut album. Underpinned by his ability to meld techno and progressive sensibilities, it features the dramatic builds and throbbing pulses of "Eternity" and "Welcome to the Opera". Augmenting this aesthetic on both tracks are diva vocals. That's not to suggest that Genesys ever strays into bland pop dance. "Chordial" is a beautiful, blissed out track that is redolent of Booka Shade's classic "Mandarin Girl". Meanwhile, both "Unearth" and "Consciousness" take the melancholic qualities of Eye Q trance, setting them to bubbling club grooves - setting a new standard for modern, melodic dance music.

Lovetempo EP
The Sun - (4:55) 120 BPM
Review: What we have here is the first-ever release from Lovetempo, a new solo project from Mattie Safer, who's best known as the bassist for NYC punk-funk outfit The Rapture, as well as his slo-mo stylings under the Poolside moniker. On this evidence, Lovetempo will slot in neatly between the two: less strident and attitude-y than the former but more dancefloor-oriented than the latter. Most of the EP's five original cuts sit somewhere between Balearica, indie soul and melancholy electronic pop, but it's Nick Catchdubs' stripped n' strutty, 80s-flavoured remix of 'Turnaround' that stands out to these ears.

Review: Steve Bug and Cle, two titans of electronic music, reunite once again to deliver a mesmerizing EP titled "It Just Happened" on the illustrious Nu Groove Records. "It Just Happened" effortlessly embodies the essence of classic house music while infusing it with a contemporary flair. The title track sets the tone with its ethereal synths and hypnotic acid loops, evoking a sense of nostalgia for the underground house era while showcasing Bug and Cle's forward-thinking approach to production. "Crew Thing" further demonstrates Bug's prowess in crafting standout house tracks, pulsating with infectious energy that is bound to ignite dance floors worldwide. This collaboration between the Dutch brother duo and the French producer showcases their seamless studio partnership. Parallelle's hybrid sound intertwines effortlessly with Masseyeff's influences of Detroit and Chicago. The title track "Renegade" sets the mood with its deep mid-tempo groove, accompanied by elegant drums, vibrant chords, and a resonating bassline. Review: In a musical landscape that's drowning under a sea of often quite lazy re-edits, it's refreshing to find a producer who's made the effort to pay musical homage in slightly more inventive fashion. Step up Beatconductor, who here serves up another motley collection of covers, mash-ups, sample-based tributes and yes, the occasional straight-up re-edit that draws on sources as varied as Teena Marie ('Chemical Flashbacks' bites the vocal from 1980's 'Square Biz'), the Human League ('Human Emotions' marries a Mariah vocal to the 'Don't You Want Me?' riff), Fleetwood Mac ('Dreams (Again)', obviously), The Beatles ('Fixxin A Hole'/'I Can Fixx A Hole'), Hall & Oates (ditto), The Who ('Who R U') and Gladys Knight & The Pips ('Goodbye' reworks 1973's 'Neither One Of Us').

Rhythm & Truth EP
Truth - (6:41) 122 BPM
Review: A warm welcome back to 6th Borough Project, who have been rather quiet since the release of their Find Your Rhythm album on Roar Groove back in 2017. The Rhythm & Truth EP is genuinely a triumphant comeback, with the pair once again working their magic with a bunch of killer loops, some weighty basslines, and infectious rhythm tracks. Those wanting "classic" 6th Borough Project should check the filter-heavy, disco-sampling deep house wonder that is 'Truth', though lead cut 'Rhythm', a more percussive, slowly building affair rich in quality bass and organ loops, is arguably even better. Finally, they explore their love of dusty, ultra-deep mid-tempo jams on the sublime 'Keep On', which is closest of all three tracks to the sound the Scottish duo explored on their early releases for Jiscomusic and Instruments of Rapture.

Review: Dave Lee has described this epic album, his first under the lesser-known AC Soul Symphony alias, as not only a 'labour of love', but also a tribute to the soaring string sounds and musically expansive arrangements that marked out work by original 1970s disco acts such as the Salsoul Orchestra, MFSB and Love Unlimited. Predictably, Lee has delivered and then some, serving up a string of epic disco workouts that flit between sax-laden mid-tempo beauty ('Windy City Theme'), soaring Philly Soul revivalism ('The Philly Avengers', with its jammed-out, Billy Preston style electric piano licks), seductive slow-jams ('Music For Your Pleasure'), elongated invitations to hit the dancefloors ('I Want To See You Dance'), sparkling disco-funk ('AC Express'), Salsoul-esque outings ('Seneca Village') and tributes to disco greats ('The Talented Mr Adams', which doffs a cap to the great Patrick Adams).

Review: Chewy Rubs' 'Ruff Beats' series reaches its fourth instalment in a little over 12 months, with deep, tracky grooves the order of the day once more. 'Keep On Doing It' is a mid-paced affair that tops moody synth sweeps with an echoing male vocal urging us to "keep on doing it like that", 'My Definition' is a more driving, house-ified cut that gets free 'n' easy with a Dream Warriors vocal snip, 'Sensations Of The Mind' marries snatches of two well-known vocals to a heavyweight funk bassline and hard-slammin' 4/4s, while 'Swagger' again plunders classic hip-hop from New York, New York (that's a clue!) for vocal inspiration.

Review: Two things in life are guaranteed, Critical Music remaining as consistent as ever and Hyroglifics continuing to push the boundaries further than ever though sonically possible. This latest album sees a truly vibrant collection put on display, exploring the farthest stretching reaches of the Hyroglifics sound, from the thumping half-time sweeps of 'Sing To It' alongside Nah Eeto's crispy vocal display, to the sub-smashing LFO crunches of 'Juggin' and more party-driven atmospherics of 'Late Ones'. We see a number of additional vocal appearances across the project, with Yeo Limone, Black Josh, Lyza Jade and Fuex all delivering unique and inspiring performances. With such a wide array of sonic mastery on display, it's difficult to pick favourites, but the sharpened synthesiser twangs of 'Burnt Tongues' and roller-inspired rumbles of 'You Got It' would be two immediate standouts.

Review: In the vibrant world of disco revival, Fool's Paradise stands as a beacon, resurrecting the electrifying spirit of New York's dance floors with a modern twist. Their latest offering, "Do It To The Music" by Raw Silk, reimagined by UK producer Michael Gray, is a perfect example of this ethos. Here, Michael Gray understands the magic of the 1982 original. He doesn't attempt to erase its essence, but rather polishes it with his signature production magic. The iconic vocals remain, floating effortlessly over a foundation of soulful grooves and shimmering synths. The tempo gets a respectful nudge, propelling the energy without losing the original's laid-back charm. His rework serves as a genuine tribute to the original, infused with his distinctive style characterized by flair and a groove-laden, funk-inspired resonance. Whether you're looking for a nostalgic throwback or a fresh take on a classic, "Do It To The Music" (Michael Gray Remix) delivers.

33 Tours Et Puis S'en Vont
Multiple Tributes (To Multiple People, For Multiple Reasons) - (6:21) 122 BPM
Review: Laurent Garnier has had an immeasurably profound and positive impact on underground electronic music. He has been there since year zero and has always championed great artists. Garnier's own output may have slowed in recent years - thankfully, 33 Tours does much to redress this imbalance. It's his most dance floor friendly album, and this approach is clear from the outset with the brooding, heavy chords of "Tales From The Real World" and "Liebe Grusse Aus Cucuron". Garnier's love of Detroit music is audible on the atmospheric "On The Record (3)"and "Cinq O'Clock Le Matin" - which are exactly the type of moody, musical grooves you'd expect him to play out. However, this album impresses precisely because he doesn't remain rooted in one sound. "Saturn Drive Duplex" has a post-punk edge thanks to Suicide frontman Alan Vega's slurred vocals. On a different tact but just as memorable, "Sake Stars Forever" is a classic slice of Garnier-esque big room techno thanks to its humming bass. It all come s together to make for a career tour de force.

DJ Deep - "What's Going On" - (6:13) 124 BPM Hot
Review: Next up on Laurent Garnier's label is a split release that explores the deeper end of house and techno. DJ Deep is up first with "What's Going On". Powered by raw, tribal beats and featuring lush pads, it sounds like the veteran house head's tribute to Joe Clausell's organic sound. Avision's "Hold No Groove" is also inspired by house music, but on this occasion, Chicago rather than New York is referenced. Combining a snaking bass with busy, layered percussion, the result is mesmerising. Deetron ups the tempo but maintains a deep sound on "Pulse", its musical but insistent rhythm recalls classic Kenny Larkin.

He's taken a different path on his latest release, offering up 'Transgenre Edits' that touch on a wide variety of sounds and styles. There's much to admire throughout, from the 105 BPM conscious soul-goes-dancing headiness of 'Songs That I See' and the weirdo disco-rock-goes-Italo-disco throb of 'Angry Eyes' (a take on a legendary 1979 by Skatt Bros) to the effervescent jazziness of 'Sad Sax' (an edit of the track sampled by Mr Scruff on 'Get a Move On'), the muscular, mind-mangling synth-disco throb of 'Angel Dust' and the bouncy Tango-disco rush of 'Funana'.
