Review: Next up on Laurent Garnier's label is a split release that explores the deeper end of house and techno. DJ Deep is up first with "What's Going On". Powered by raw, tribal beats and featuring lush pads, it sounds like the veteran house head's tribute to Joe Clausell's organic sound. Avision's "Hold No Groove" is also inspired by house music, but on this occasion, Chicago rather than New York is referenced. Combining a snaking bass with busy, layered percussion, the result is mesmerising. Deetron ups the tempo but maintains a deep sound on "Pulse", its musical but insistent rhythm recalls classic Kenny Larkin.

Review: The future of Argy has arrived in the Afterlife. With a strong connection to the platform of late with albums and releases like Tataki, Pantheon and Aria next to the collaborative gem Higher Power - Argy has officially arrived. With this album in particular pitched as the artist's magnum opus, New World proves to be a fusion of human emotion inter-mixed with and AI innovation. Going large for those Afterlife sets no doubt, a techno futuristic and modern melodic Argy sends in 14 large scale tracks for the stadium space - ie "No One's Coming" and "Higher Power" - to the bad ass vampire acid in "Wilderness" or Juan Atkins Cyberton reflections in Tibet - Rad!

Review: Nu Groove Records delivers another gem with "Nu Groove Edits, Vol. 4," a compilation that breathes new life into classic tracks from the label's illustrious history. This release spotlights the artists who shaped the legendary NYC label, offering re-interpretations by leading selectors of today. It kicks off with "Tonight's The Night" by NYC favorites How & Little (The Sound Vandals), given a fresh treatment by Italian duo NiCe7. The track retains its original charm while incorporating contemporary production elements, setting the tone for the rest of the journey. N.Y. House'n Authority's seminal "APT. 2A" gets reworked by UK deep tech aficionado Hugo Massien, resulting in a deeper, more introspective version that retains the groove of the original. The collection also features a remix of The Utopia Project's "File #3" by Mak & Pasteman, showcasing their signature blend of soulful vocals and driving basslines. Then it closes with a bang with the duo Honey Dijon & Luke Solomon re-imagining A.B.T.'s "Luv 2 Luv U." Their edit infuses the track with irresistible energy, making it a guaranteed dance floor mover.

Review: 2024 was always going to be a year of surprises, and the latest release on Rekids is testament to that. Man Power hooks up with the Paris-based Louisahhh for an unexpected anthem in waiting. The title track is an expansive deep house track. At its heart is a pulsating bass combined with Louisahhh's freeform narrative about the state of the world. As befits such a modern classic, Rekids has commissioned Deetron to deliver three remixes. The dub version is a joyous UR-style deep techno version, while the main version follows a similar trajectory, powered by thunder claps and outer space tones. Keeping the audience guessing, Deetron also delivers a 'Drum & Bass' version that focuses on high-paced techno, while the 'Bleep Tool' ends the release to the sound of glistening tonal bliss.

Review: Monty Luke's Nightdubbing project on Rekids was designed to showcase the Black Catalogue boss's deep love of dub-infused house and techno. This 13-track album combines previously unheard cuts with nine tracks previously showcased across a pair of EPs of the same name. It's a fantastic set all told, with highlights including the smacked-out electro-dub headiness of opener '40 Acres and a Terrabyte', the extra-percussive deep dub-house hypnotism of 'Bob Molly', the after-hours friendly minimalism of 'Star Storms', the Detroit-goes-dub techno pulse of 'New World/Old Future', the classic dub techno warmth of 'Dark Paradise', and the dub-wise deep house dreaminess of 'Avantgarde Dancehall'. Throw in a handful of tidy ambient and digital dub tracks, and you have a genuinely superb long-player.

Review: Acid house in sound but punk in nature, the title of Paranoid London's new album is a reference to "the cavalcade of c***s we find ourselves surrounded by". However, while there is despair there is also hope, and this long player is testament to the power of underground music. Arseholes...also demonstrates the importance of collaboration. Bobby Gillespie croons his way through the gentle tones of "People (Ah Yeah)". At the other end of the sonic spectrum, Joe Love and DJ Genesis feature on the gnarly, 303-led grooves of "Love One Self" and "Up Is Down" respectively. Somewhere between these polar opposites sits the evocative Chicago house sound of "Start To Fade" with Josh Caffe and Mutado Pintado's sonorous vocals on the pulsating "The Motion". Paranoid London proves yet again that when confronted by a***holes, music really is the only answer.

Review: Sasha's latest single Fleuron Drift marks yet another milestone in the electronic maestro's illustrious career. The original track is a deeper journey, meticulously crafted with evolving synth layers and hypnotic drum patterns that culminate in a euphoric breakdown. Theo Kottis injects his remix with dynamic energy, featuring tech-leaning drums and glitchy textures for peak dance floor moments. Kassian's rendition then offers a quicker pace, blending funk-infused drums with soaring synth tension, promising to transport listeners yet more electronic bliss fit for a final night on this world. Review: Like previous instalments, the twelfth Senso Sounds split release delivers fresh techno from some of the scene's most talented new producers. Sinisa Tamamovic's "Sand" is a prime example of this innovation, as gritty analogue textures are teased out over dense kicks and steely hi hats. Neither Nor's "Mess" is powered by a similar aesthetic. At the heart of the arrangement is a dense, brooding bass, with mysterious tones unfolding against this back drop. Fabrication's "Blotter Spotter" doesn't deviate from the overall mood, but it is more club focused. Led by a warbling acid bass and jittery percussion, it completes this adventurous release.

Review: This 2024 reissue of an all time and much love classic Raumgleiter by Der Dritte Raum presents an exceptional concept trance album that remains ahead of its time, defying the stigma once and sometimes attached to the genre. Highlighting tracks like "Hale Bopp" and "Polarstern," which made waves in big rooms at the time, the real gem lies in "Lava," transitioning seamlessly from acid builds to progressive trance, which then leads perfectly into "Hale Bopp." Der Dritte Raum's hypnotic beats and catchy melodies went far to transport listeners to other dimensions back in the day, and a fresh 2024 re-up does the same thing- groundbreaking stuff for trance enthusiasts.

Review: Laurent Garnier and Scan X's label does a great job in showcasing emerging and established talent, and this split release is no exception. The brilliantly named Return Of The Luddites deliver the raw electro-techno of "Scream Into The Darkness". In stark contrast, Detroit techno-inspired tracks also loom large, courtesy of Skatman's string-filled "Tribute To A Dancefloor" and Squal G's more ominous "Waiting 4U". Mirroring Garnier's own wide-ranging tastes, the release also features the call and response hip-hop/drum'n'bass crossover of Joaquim Plossu, Salem Focus and Phoebe Train's "Theory Of The Tide". Taking the tempo down, Yes Basketball's "Next" is a slowed down, bugged out beatsy track.

Review: Ostensibly a response to techno being 'in such a sorry and predictable state', Full Pupp's latest compilation goes off in a number of wonderfully captivating tangents. Label owner Prins Thomas' "Mere Apokalypso" is a tripped-out groove, while his take on Synk's "Tool Mix" is an acid-laced chugger. In contrast, JaddajaddaPlay's "Bird No Bird" goes down a percussive route. Despite the title, techno does make an appearance. Blackbelt Engh Rhythm Combo's "Frydenlyn" is a rolling tribal affair, while trance influences bubble to the surface on Christian Engh's dubbed out "Khonsu" and Karolinski's high-paced, melodic "Slutt A Mase Eg Har Ikkje Spelt Pa Ei Veke".

Review: To mark the fiftieth release on his label, Moustache boss David Vunk teams up with Tafkamp. Inspired by Chicago house and electro, this three-tracker has a definite dance floor focus. "The Jacker" is a relentless percussive workout. Powered by rolling snares and featuring repetitive vocal loops, it's in the same vein as the output on Crème Organization's Jak offshoot. "Acid Party" has a more club techno focus, but even here, Vunk and Tafkamp populate its robust groove with spiralling acid lines. The sound of the 303 is also audible on "Interzone" - on this occasion, it unravels over an old school electro rhythm as the pair reach for the heights again.

Review: Inigo Vontier returns to Multi Culti with a crafty four-track EP. "Asi Si" is a rolling tribal house groove, populated by high-pitched tones and repetitive vocal samples. Dub influences loom large on the title track, where spaced out tones are fused with warbling 303s and subtle percussive builds. Vontier takes inspiration from Chicago on "Tumbada", with doubled-up drums and steely percussion providing the basis for gritty acid lines and a clanging bass. "Ultra Jungle" marks another shift in sound. On this occasion, Vontier deploys robust kicks and a throbbing, pulsating bass, making for a delightfully tripped out dub disco track.

Review: Lewis Fautzi's new project, Space Program, is a 'deep dive into the edge of his creative and artistic mind'. This might read like a grand statement were not for the fact that its debut offering, Scientific Side sees him deliver four wonderfully tripped out techno tracks. Unified by a pulsating bass sound and searing, psychedelic acid lines, each track voyages to electronic music's outer limits. The raw, rasping textures and frazzled tones of "Intricated Soundscape" sound like Fautzi is in deep orbit, while the brooding sound of "Humans In Space" is just as captivating. Space Program is a brilliant new addition to the modern techno canon.

Review: Get Physical Music revives its Classics series with a nostalgic trip into its essential archives, kicking off with Chelonis R. Jones' timeless anthem "Deer In The Headlights" originally released back in in 2005 (19 years ago omg!). Remixed by electronic luminaries DJ Hell and Radio Slave, this reissue breathes new life into Jones' haunting masterpiece. The Dub Mix of "Deer In The Headlights" captivates with its moody, low-slung vibe, while DJ Hell's rendition infuses brain-frying synths and sleazy vocals, echoing his electroclash roots. On the flip, Radio Slave's remix delivers unrelenting techno pressure, with insistent synth loops and dark atmospheres. A solid revival here, this reissue not only appeals to new audiences but also reignites the passion of those who experienced these tracks firsthand, reaffirming their timeless appeal.
