DAWL - "Moving Structure" (original mix) - (6:05) 131 BPM
Review: Amentec have done a great job in assembling this top level collection of new school breakbeat action, welcoming no less than 14 artists inside across 13 hard hitting creations. The exciting thing about the project is that it leaves no breaks-inspired stone unturned, featuring the likes of Sound Synthesis, Inkipak, DAWL, Flatliner and more. From the intense, arcade style arrangements of Sub Oscillator's 'Ketzer' remix from Difool, to the more abstract acidity of Bobo's bulging 'Club Proxima', we see such an exciting range on display. Our highlights therefore have to include both the classy club-ready bops of Ova Doce's 'Keep On', next to the cloud-lining euphoria of MOY's 'Jovian Sunrise'. A truly top quality collection.

Ghost Burger (feat Neil Landstrumm) - (6:22) 133 BPM
Oddball - (5:32) 130 BPM
Review: Brian Rays is back in business, unleashing his killer new album project 'Slime', courtesy of the one and only Acroplane recordings. One word of warning, prepare for the unexpected as we dive into 10 tracks of sonic surrealism, from the uber-eerie percussive melodies of 'Plugs' with Quiet, to the stunning synthetic soundscaping of 'Nightcrawler' and high octane drum bops of 'Vampire Tints' alongside Riffs. As an album, this collection takes us on a completely unpredictable flight path, with a new rhythmic direction and melodic approach waiting around every corner. Our highlight moments include the super glitchy percussive arrangements of 'Ghost Burger' alongside the legendary Neil Landstrumm, next to the time-dancing subby twists of 'Oddball'. A highly inspired album for sure.

Breathe - (4:45) 134 BPM
Review: Running Back boss Gerd Janson has been a fan of Raphael Schon for some time. Last year, he reissued the German producer's 2021 breakthrough hit, 'Fiesta 2000', on the Misfit Melodies offshoot. Now he's gone further still, offering up an expansive EP of brand-new music by the producer, all of which is shot through with references to dance music's storied past. Our picks of a very strong bunch include the sparkling positivity of the 303 bass-powered 'Bearhit', the riff-happy retro-futurist smoothness of 'Do You Like That' - whose breakdowns and drops are suitably excitable - and the kaleidoscopic, near techno-tempo joy explosion that is 'Distant City Transport'. The more nu-disco and maximal house influenced 'Sometimes I Miss You' is also superb.

The Rhythm
The Rhythm - (5:53) 133 BPM
The Rhythm (Cani remix) - (6:01) 130 BPM
Review: Nine months on from the release of the throbbing and pulsating 'Zombie Dance' on Permanent Vacation, Zombies in Miami return to their Creatures of the Night label - the Mexican duo's first appearance on the imprint since 2022's fine collaboration with Lauer, 'Michelada Brothers'. On 'The Rhythm', the duo takes a different tack, dispensing with nods to Italo-disco in favour of weighty tribal house beats (think late '90s Junior Vasquez and Danny Tenaglia), restless electronic bass, echoing vocal snippets and mind-mangling effects. It's genuinely fantastic and comes backed with two tidy reworks: a pots-and-pans-percussion propelled dancefloor dub by Cani, and the sleazy, low slung and stretched-out 'Factory Setup' remix.

Review: Jad & The is unstoppable and it's becoming clear and apparent that the guy has talent, taste and style when it comes to keeping the sound of house alive and real! With drums as tough as kerri chandler, basslines as phat as the cab drivers and synths and noodling as Legowelt, the guy can write. Here he delivers another four good vibes bangers, keeping it roland with the drum and hi hats and acid as F* wherever he wants. Australia's answer to a young Buttechno - but house!

Ride The Night Remixes
Ride The Night (Alex Neri remix) - (6:43) 130 BPM
Review: It's no surprise that Baldo's "Ride the Night" has become a dance floor favourite. Drawing on acid and Italo influences that play out over a throbbing techno groove, it is the ultimate contemporary club track. Its stature poses a challenge for those whom Permanent Vacation have tasked to remix it, but each version succeeds in delivering a fresh perspective. Red Axes bring some industrial force and day glo psychedelia on their version. Alex Neri opts for a different approach, re-positioning the original amid flowing deep house textures. Jennifer Loveless' take follows a third alternative, as a pulsating bass supports dramatic builds and drops.

Alpha Key EP
Future Remedy - (5:48) 134 BPM
Review: Never let it be said that Robert Hood is letting his listeners languish in a sonic comfort zone. The veteran producer's latest EP under his own name starts with a jolt, as the title track deploys pounding, industrial drums and a chain metal rhythm. "Pathetic" is just as intense. Based on a relentless groove, it sees Hood deploy a spiralling chord sequence that filters its way to a spine-tingling finale. "Outsider" is based on a similar premise, but this time hollowed out drums support a niggling build. This release effortlessly shatters the assumption that Hood would continue to focus on the less abrasive, house-influenced Floorplan project.

Review: 2024 was always going to be a year of surprises, and the latest release on Rekids is testament to that. Man Power hooks up with the Paris-based Louisahhh for an unexpected anthem in waiting. The title track is an expansive deep house track. At its heart is a pulsating bass combined with Louisahhh's freeform narrative about the state of the world. As befits such a modern classic, Rekids has commissioned Deetron to deliver three remixes. The dub version is a joyous UR-style deep techno version, while the main version follows a similar trajectory, powered by thunder claps and outer space tones. Keeping the audience guessing, Deetron also delivers a 'Drum & Bass' version that focuses on high-paced techno, while the 'Bleep Tool' ends the release to the sound of glistening tonal bliss.

Modular Dance - (5:51) 131 BPM
Follow The Time - (5:54) 130 BPM
Jump On The Floor - (5:20) 132 BPM
Review: Hailing from the serene province of Venice, Italy, Marco Rubin unveils his musical prowess with the Modular Dance EP, set to grace Jamie Jones' esteemed Hottrax label! The EP embarks on a sonic journey, naturally, beginning with the gritty, lo-fi textures of "Modular Dance", where a paranoid lead synth winds through an urban soundscape. "Follow The Time" delves into more stripped-back territories, boasting kinetic kicks and dry basslines, intertwined with chopped-up vocals and freaky sound designs. Closing the EP, "Jump On The Floor" introduces an irresistible garage shuffle in its drums, accompanied by futuristic melodic phrases that cascade down, infusing cosmic hues into Rubin's stellar debut.

Thee J Johanz - "The Woodpecker" - (5:42) 130 BPM
St. Theodore - "No Future" - (5:41) 130 BPM
Cybereign & Francois Dillinger - "Operate" - (4:51) 130 BPM
Larionov - "Access Denied" - (5:56) 132 BPM
Review: The Occupants series is a split release project from Science Cult, the label that artists like Carl Finlow, Cygnus and Umek's Zeta Reticula project all call home. This first volume covers electro, but in the broadest sense. Thee J Johanz' "Woodpecker" is an acid-fried break beat track. At the other end of the spectrum, Aura Nox's "Mutiny On The Voyage To Azimut" sees the Science Cult artist voyage to the sound's outer limits. Remaining in that space is Blixaboy's dub-tinged "Bushido Initiative". St. Theodore presents a more ominous sound on "No Future", an arrangement that is led by a punishing sub-bass, and for a pure futuristic hit, it is hard to better the skeletal rhythms of Arsonist Recorder's "Heat Seek".

Review: Twenty-three years since he initially released Dispatches on his own Geophone imprint, Mike Parker's debut album gets a timely reissue on Field. Listening to his debut album is a reminder of how it remains the corner stone for much contemporary techno. Parker's use of sparse rhythms is audible throughout, as is the cavernous, at times all-encompassing sound scapes he designed. While there are references to some previous techno canons - a hint of Plastikman acid in places, or echoes of Sahko's repetition - Dispatches really is in a field of its own. That it manages to still sound not just relevant but also revelatory is testament to Parker's unique talent.

Fleuron Drift
Fleuron Drift (Theo Kottis remix) - (6:49) 130 BPM
Review: Sasha's latest single Fleuron Drift marks yet another milestone in the electronic maestro's illustrious career. Collaborating with Theo Kottis and Kassian for remixes on his own label (Last Night On Earth ), Sasha continues to redefine the boundaries of sonic intrepidation. The original track is a deeper journey, meticulously crafted with evolving synth layers and hypnotic drum patterns that culminate in a euphoric breakdown. Theo Kottis injects his remix with dynamic energy, featuring tech-leaning drums and glitchy textures for peak dance floor moments. Kassian's rendition then offers a quicker pace, blending funk-infused drums with soaring synth tension, promising to transport listeners yet more electronic bliss fit for a final night on this world. Drift away.

Release Yourself - (5:54) 130 BPM
Review: Fresh from outings on 8Bit and Dirtybird, Audiojack return to the label they established way back in 2010, Gruuv. In keeping with the Yorkshire-raised duo's outings on the imprint, it's a tightly focused and club ready two-tracker. First up is 'Somebody', a rumbling, body-moving slab of 1997 speed garage revivalism - all Armand Van Helden 'dark garage' bass, dark synth strings, echoing vocal snippets and chunky house drums - which sounds like a genuine peak-time anthem in the making. They continue the "arms aloft" vibes on the similarly large title track, 'Release Yourself', which mixes vintage UK garage influences with nods to contemporaneous big room NYC house sounds.

Details (Girl Unit remix) - (4:59) 130 BPM Hot
Details (Aryu Jassika's You Like Things remix) - (5:05) 132 BPM
Review: It's been a while since we last heard from Hyperdub and Don't Be Afraid regular Ikonika. In fact, 'Details' marks her first solo material for almost three years, and her first release of any kind since last year's collaborative mini album with 45Diboss, 'Supernova'. 'Details' is a typically colourful and synth-heavy affair, with her own vocals and glistening electro-pop melodies riding bouncy beats (think Afrobeats-meets-pitched-down Afro-house and you're close) and a deliciously warped, sub-heavy bassline. The remix package is naturally strong, boasting fine revisions from BokBok (energetic and upbeat, with nods to peak-time bass music and broken beat), Girl Unit (thrusting, wobble bass-propelled techno) and Aryu Jassica (percussively propulsive tribal house revivalism).

On The Loose
On The Loose - (4:48) 130 BPM
Review: Kizzy's newest release is..."On the Loose," going heavy from the outset with its powerful bass-driven heat. Designed to resonate through the heart of a club's speaker system, the track pulsates with Bristol boomtown energy, enhanced by subtle vocals and rave-like whistles that add a unique rhythmic dimension. Amidst the intensity, ethereal pads emerge, offering moments of tranquility that deepen the track's emotional resonance, showcasing Kizzy's ability to masterfully balance intensity and introspection within a single banger - rewind!
