Closely / Loving Baby
Closely - (4:25) 133 BPM Hot
Loving Baby - (4:51) 133 BPM
Review: It's been a brief minute since we last deep-dived into a new Four40 drop, who for the longest time have been helping reshape the UKG scene from top to bottom, both with high ranking veterans and vibrant newcomers at the wheel. This latest offering sees the one and only Gandalf arrive for two-tracks of euphoria-inducing 4x4 bliss. We begin with the pitched down vocal chomps and tidy drum skips of 'Closely', which sets the party alight from the second it touches down. On the flip side to this, 'Loving Baby' provides a more melodic focus, diving into subtle chord progressions and sweetened vocal slices, giving us a perfect 2 track pairing to enjoy in full.

Get Mad Remixes Part.2
Get Mad (ANIMATE remix) - (2:54) 132 BPM Hot
Get Mad (Arc Nade remix) - (3:01) 131 BPM
Get Mad (Arundel remix) - (3:26) 132 BPM
Review: It's been a short while since Four40's name was at the front of the conveyor belt but boy are we glad to see them back in action, as they welcome M.O.B, Moda & Devilman inside for the second collection of 'Get Mad' remixes. First up, ANIMATE delivers an electrifying bassy squelcher, focussing on crunchy LFO runs and a constant pinch of vocal flare, followed by Arc Nade, who gives the track a much quicker overhaul, utilising spacey, nostalgia-inducing pad textures, descending into lethal reese action shortly after. Finally, Arundel arrives for a final synthy rethink, deploying lethal bassline runs and sharpened 4x4 drum designs for one final dash of dancefloor delight. Excellent!

Just Can't - (5:13) 134 BPM Hot
Touch Me - (6:07) 130 BPM
Home - (4:46) 131 BPM
Review: Blissful, ice cold euphoria. What better set of emotions to feel when diving into a project eh? Those are the exact feelings that rush to the surface whenever we take the time to explore an MKII project in full, with this latest 'Home' LP on Four40 being more of the joyous same. From start to finish this EP peppers your serotonin with room shaking harmonic beauty and thunderous breaks-driven rhythms, dipping and weaving into more garage-sentric themes from time to time as well. The mechanical drum squelches of 'Blue Skies', the intense bass belches of 'Touch Me' and swampy percussive drips of 'Check Dis' would be our immediate stand outs from the project, but we couldn't recommend exploring it from start to finish any higher!

Review: We have long been of the opinion that MKII is one of the most gifted soundsmith's working in and around breaks and garage music today, so to see him land on Four40 with a full length collection is a very exciting thing to take in. He delivers 10 absolute masterpieces, exploring the most emotive ends of the garage spectrum, all laced with gorgeous drum processing and vibrant layouts behind, from the more gnarly synth injections of 'Change' to the floaty backdrops of 'Halo' and clunky percussive flicks of 'Fuse'. With the whole EP swimming in such a fabulous sense of sonic character, it's almost impossible to pick favourites, with this being a must listen in long play format. If we had to pick 2 tracks to sell you the project however, the bubbling minimalism of 'Grow' and stunning vocal manipulations of 'Shadows' would be our two stand outs!
Exceptional work from an exceptional producer!

Hard To Smile (10 Years Later)
Issues - (5:05) 132 BPM
Review: Four40 have continuously impressed over the course of 2022 so far, with their catalogue boasting some of the most exciting names across the UK dance music spectrum. This time around, ENiGMA Dubz arrives to celebrate a slice of history, with the '10 Years Later Edit' version of 'Hard To Smile' starring as the leading role, being a beautiful, delicately designed UKG anthem. We also get to dip into the original version which retains a tonne of that original energy, doused in stunning string lines and alternating vocal chops. Alongside this, the blue melodies and bouncy chord progressions of 'Between Me And You' give us another slice of ENiGMA's more emotive side, before 'Issues' gives us one final spacey masterclass, doused in beautiful harmonic structure and vocal dithers to finish the project off with a dash of finesse. Awesome work!

Review: With the year drawing to a close, there is no doubt in anybody's minds that the Four40 team have put together another spectacular year of content. They have decided to celebrate this with another top notch compilation, with '11 Years Of Four40' exploring some of this year's biggest releases. The company the LP keeps is pretty outstanding, with the likes of Burt Cope, MPH, BWK Project, KASTLE, Jakobin, Papirus, Tuff Culture, Yemi and many many more all getting involved. As always with Four40 however, we have some very specific favourites we want to dive into, first off with Tee Vis & Phoebe Freya's super catchy singalong 'On You' absolutely smashing the charts at the time of its original release. We also can't miss our Royal Flush's fabulous rework of 'Gettin' Your Love' from George IV, WZA's Don't Wanna Give Up' and of course the Hybrid Theory rethink of 'Like You' from Blakk Habit, which to this day still receives reloads in the dances around the country. Another fabulous year for the Four40 crew!

Conduit - (5:46) 134 BPM Hot
Review: The evolution of the relationship between MKII and Four40 has been a fabulous thing to witness, seeing the quality of every EP go up each and every time. This latest two track display once again gives MKII the platform to explore his spacious, euphoric take of breaks and garage, always pushing the boundaries further into the unknown. We kick off with the skippy drum textures and floating atmospheric beauty of 'Vault', a blippy masterpiece of padded texture and futuristic breakbeat action, again showcasing exactly why we rate MKII so highly. The flip side then sees us take in 'Conduit', a journeyman of an arrangement, exploring emotive harmonic structures and grizzly reesey bass switches, culminating in a huge final design.

Rockport Flex - (5:31) 134 BPM
So Mysterious - (4:19) 134 BPM
Who U Are - (5:31) 134 BPM
Review: The beautiful thing about the Four40 discography is that it seems to just keep on getting better, this time included as they unveil this sizzling seven tracker from Deadly Habitz. We kick off with the dancefloor-focussed vocal sampling and skippy rhythmic textures of 'Gyaldem Skank', leading into the throwback reese bass drives, nostalgic chords and eerie strings of 'Rockport Flex'. We are already taking in a very depthy display of garage history at this point, with the breaks-infused drum skips of 'So Mysterious' and moogy synth pulses of 'The Lover Dealer' expanding that even further. From here we then move into the more stripped back drum arrangements and classic Rodigan vocal sampling of 'Watch The Ride', next to the high tempo drum crunches and warbling bass tones of 'Who U Are'. Finally, the pitched up vocal lines and throwback organ chord melodies of 'U Don't Know' give us a killer outro to another fantastic addition to Four40's catalogue.

Review: The quality and consistency of the Four40 release schedule over the last couple of years has been near enough unrivalled, especially when it comes to their incredible line of UKG drops. Next up from them we explore some of the best bits of that run. Just looking at the artists involved is enough to get any selector salivating as we see fantastic inclusions from Deadly Habitz, Patrick Kane, Kells, Yemi, Burt Cope, Vital Techniques and so many more. There are a couple on here that have really stood the test of time in our eyes, including the Hybrid Theory remix of Blakk Habit's 'Like You', which has been causing damage in the dances ever since the raves began to reopen. We would also include Joe Burger & Dread MC's wicked collab 'Vibe' in that list of top tier inclusions, alongside George IV's 'Gettin' Your Love' and of course 'Faithful' from BWK Project. More power to the Four40 crew, who continue to impress at every turn.

Get To Me (Everyday) (BWK Project remix) - (3:56) 132 BPM
Review: It looks as though Four40 are set to continue their exciting run of new releases well into the future as they next unleash another killer batch of remixes, welcoming the sounds of BLK JCK back for 3 potent reworks of 'Get To Me'. We begin with B15's sizzling roller of a recreation, focussing heavily on bulbous bass pulses and jumpy vocal chops, followed by Danny Wynn's 4x4-inspired overhaul, focussing much more-so on sweeping electronic reeses and groovy chord expressions for a more throwback flavour. Finally, BWK arrives for his addition to the project, switching the flavours into a bubbling 2-step masterclass, rounding us off in style!

We kick off with 'Afterparty', a silky combination of subtle sub-lines and gorgeous pad textures layered atop skippy 2-step rhythms for some classy sound design. Next, 'Give U', collects a bag of crunchy percussive elements and scatters them across the rhythmic cosmos with some vibrant results, followed by 'Got Somebody Else', a more minimal design, focussing on classic UKG vocal sampling and sharpened drum punches. Finally, 'Take Flight' gives us a synth-heavy send off, with big room bass pulses and shifting synth sounds giving us an unpredictable yet overpowering finale.

Dont Know - (3:30) 130 BPM
Review: As always, the infamous Four40 team appear to have arrived on top form, as they continue their foray in the realms of UKG, unearthing exciting new releases left, right and centre. This latest two-tracker sees the BWK Project return with a couple of sizzling creations, kicking off with the title track 'Blame Me'. This one is a sub-heavy ride through fuzzy melodics and tidy drum grooves, perfect for the sunshine season. On the flip, 'Don't Know' gives us a much more emotive feel, fusing engulfing sub-bass tones with a fluttering melodic bass with fabulous results. The consistency with which the Four40 squad have been operating within the garage realm is truly outstanding and we are loving every second of it!

Review: Will the Four40 team ever run out of good new garage to release? Our sources say no as they drop yet another top quality remix bundle, this time sending George IV's 'Gettin' Your Love' to the chop shop. We begin with a very tidy rework from Royal Flush, who in typical fashion redecorate the track with a widened arrangement, topped with groovy strings, sweeping synths and a bag of original energy, before Kells strips the track back into a much more sub-heavy roller, giving the release some real depth after just two releases. Finally, we move into a much darker realm as the broken-beat drum chops and moody subs of Tee Vish's remix bring the release to a stunning close.

Review: It's got the point with Four40 releases that we already know we are going to enjoy what's on offer, with this brand new drop from the ever-ready Kells being yet another fantastic edition to their ever-expanding catalogue of garage goodness. We begin our dive into this two tracker with the pleasing chord progressions and glittering percussive plucks of 'Ghost Dispatch', giving us some classic-sounding flavour for a real kick-start. On the flipside, 'Speed Dial' delivers something a little bit deeper, as futuristic, almost aquatic sounding bass warbles take the starring role. It's a tidy drop to say the least!

Review: The reign of Four40 continues to roam freely across the new release section, with their incredible levels of consistency showing once again here with this exceptional three-tracker from BWK Project. We begin our dive with the minimal yet super-impactful sounds of 'Love Me', which kicks the EP off in flying fashion with its combination of subtle melodics and beautiful harmonies. Next, the groovy flavours continue with 'Faithful', another modern take on classic UKG ideals, before rounding off the project with 'Together', a much more sub-heavy roller, focussing on tidy melodic flicks and powerful basslines below of a bed of pleasing vocal chops. The whole release works a treat and is yet another successful selection from the Four40 team.

Review: With a number of super enjoyable releases in recent times, the link-up between the futuristic sounds of MKII and the veteran run-outs of Four40 Records always spells out a good time. We kick off this brand new EP with a look at 'Kontakt', a typically futuristic combination of hard-hitting subs and shimmering chords, followed by 'Set Up', which again sees MKII deploy some of his classic bass manipulation techniques, this time topped with crispy UKG rhythms to match. Finally, 'Signal' unleashes a throwback style moogy bass lead, which gives the track the perfect amount of skank-ready energy to smash down the doors to any party.

Rolled - (3:48) 130 BPM
Review: Another week, another top quality Four40 release landing in our store. It's become a pattern we are extremely fond of and with the label showing no signs of slowing down, fills us with excitement. This time around they welcome the wonderful sounds of Palize onto the field of play who delivers a pair of rave-ready singles. We begin with 'What To Do', a classic sounding bassline roller, linking together different LFO designs and shiny vocal slices over high energy 4x4 drum patterns for some old school niche flavour. We move into something a tad more digital next as 'Rolled' delivers a much wider bass sound, this time being deployed over more stripped back drums to add some variation to this exciting two track project.

Review: There really does seem to be no stopping the oncoming storm that is the Four40 release catalogue, as they continue their fiery start to 2021 with yet another system smashing three-tracker. Enter: NLMT, who delivers some melody-driven bassy goodness from start to finish, kicking off with the jovial synthesizer runs and energetic drum processing of 'Rollercoaster', leading into 'Mashup', a spooky UKG roller, focussing more so on unusual sound design and an eerie sense of harmonic structure. Finally, 'Disaster' sees NLMT enter the much more rowdy side of his character with a raucous display of synthetic abandon, giving us a lively finish to this depthy selection.

Review: It's safe to say that the Four40 team appears to have kicked off 2021 with the same vigor that they closed out 2020 with, marching forward with hard-hitting release after hard-hitting release. Next up from them, they welcome Cooky, who delivers three powerful 4x4 originals, kicking off with the euphoric synth design and big room bass booms of 'Over' which really does set us off in style. Next, the pace is increased and the subs pushed further as the more stripped back LFO lines and crunchy drum arrangements of 'My Mind' give us a taste of something a little different, before the more melodic twists and colourful vocal slices of 'Chops' put the final touches on a very well thought out three-tracker.

Review: If you weren't keeping an eye on the magnificent movements of Four40 Records in 2020 then you must have had your head buried in the sand, given their incredible catalogue growth. This brand new three-tracker from Jaikea adds another spicy box to their cupboard of treats as we kick off with the lethal bass manipulation and dancefloor-filling drum slaps of the title track 'Rinse It'. This is then followed in similar spirits with 'Informa', a wibbly-wobbly 2-step skanker, alongside the more high pitched synthesizer slaps and carefully layered vocal samples of 'Yard Gyal' to round us out in style.
