Review: Fautzi puts out his third EP in as many years on Soma - and the title track is a reminder as to why he has become a regular on Slam's label. Echoing the austere, steely minimalism of Space DJz output for Soma during the 90s, it's a robust, steely affair that resounds to menacing riffs and superb percussive builds before returning to its banging path. "Ionic Bonding" is a more contemporary sounding track, with drones rising over tough drum patterns, while on "Absolute Zero" the Portuguese producer flirts with the tunnelling, hypnotic sound of Mike Parker and even Sandwell District. "Covalent Bond' is in a similar vein, but this time Fautzi ups the pace, puts his head down and aims for dance floor abandon.

Review: Off the back of some recent glories for the like of Canoe, the highly-rated Nyra has earned himself a spot on the E-Beamz imprint, alongside peeps like DJ Boring, DJ Swagger and the rest of the nu-school house gang. However, unlike their style, this man's got the techno equation on lock-down, and if "Function 8" is anything to go by, then we're pretty sure that true-school techno is both alive and well! "Defenders Of The Past" is another supremely funky techno attack, all acidic and minimal, just like those pioneering Muzique releases, whereas "Eternal Ends" opts for the more soulful touch thanks to a killer slew of melodies riding up and down its analogue groove like a wave. Big boy gear.

Review: Gabriel Le Mar is a producer living in Frankfurt, releasing electronic music with a special focus on deep/dub inflected tech house sounds. He's racked up some impressive collaborations over the years, with studio time with legends such as Dr Motte, Pascal FEOS and Brendon Moeller, plus Marko Fuerstenberg and even the late great Pete Namlook. For his own diverse Le Mar Production imprint, he serves up an impressive full length - and it's exactly what you would expect from this veteran producer, and some! After the gorgeous chill-out balearica of opener "Iced Wire" (feat Klangzeuger) we are treated to around a dozen and a half techno experiments that are heavy on the low end, drenched in delay and that will transport you to the most chilling, glacial and cavernous depths. Although it obviously uses masters of the craft such as Basic Channel and Echospace as reference points, it still can stand proud on its own. On the collaborative front, there's some great ones: the best being the aforementioned Dr Motte's entrancing and evocative "The Breeze" and Swiss young guns Smalltown Collective who deliver an electrifying remix of "Deep Red Guitar".

Review: Intangible Records & Soundworks is a Detroit based label run by the legendary Terrence Parker. In operation since the mid '90s, the imprint has brought out some great music in the last year (in particular) with tracks by the likes of label staple DJ MoReese plus Gunbee & Merachka. Parker serves up one of his most powerful and poignant anthems yet, in the form of "Rejection" with its important message conveyed via powerful and jacked up diva vocals over all the the trademarks of his sound: funky basslines, shimmering synths and ultra tight rhythms.

Review: Shaun Baron-Carvais aka Shlomo follows up the first volume of In Absentia from last year with this second instalment, The Taapion Records owner draws on Delsin's heritage of deep techno for the title track, with mysterious synths cascading airily over a nagging rhythm. On "Tbilisian Cure", he changes direction and increases the tempo to deliver a rolling, drum-heavy affair, while "Lali" marks a more radical shift, as he navigates a path that traverses dreamy ambient and Asian motifs. However, the focus of this EP is mainly on the dance floor, and the Tommy Four Seven version of "Lali", with its punishing broken beats, pushes it back towards techno.

Review: This second set of remixes from Perc's recent album begins in stark contrast to the first series. EP02 gets under way with the frenetic, tribal groove and trance stabs of Dax J's take on "Unelected". The tempo drops again for Lucy's take on "Wax Apple". In the Italian producer's hands, it turns into a stepping rhythm shot through with mysterious textures and drones. Changing course once again is Matrixxman with his interpretation of "Rat Run". While the US producer doesn't take away any of Perc's grit and grime, he does use a nickel-plated, percussive backing track to make his remix sound like it was recorded in a Chicago warehouse.

Review: In this first volume of remixes, Ali Wells gathers an impressive cast to rework tracks from his Bitter Music album. First up is John Heckle's Head Front Panel project, which turns Perc's "The Thought That Counts" into an intense, dense techno groover, led by intricate riffs and tones. By contrast, Hodge's take on "Chatter" is loose and free-flowing, underpinned by massive, dubbed out drums and a rhythm that sways and swerves in all the right places. Pessimist's take on "Exit" pushes the release back towards the opaque and, in this instance, mysterious, thanks to its shadowy drones. Last but certainly not least is Dale Cornish with a superb, stuttering minimal house take on "I Just Can't Win".

Review: After the success of his debut release 'Ravin Face' It was only a matter of time before Tyrone joined up with Southampton's own 'YosH' for a follow up release. That he does wit this new EP in collaboration with Kier. This release features two original creations, the first of which is a straight bassline roller entitled 'Tell Em Again'. The second track is a more crack house inspired instrumental, again featuring vibrant dancefloor inspired vocals from both Tyrone and Kier. It's no secret that there is a distinct lack of MC's in a bassline scene crowded with thousands of keen new producers, so this is certainly a positive step as a release.

Review: "Z Beats (Mix 1)", which starts this release, comes across like a slightly less intense relative to Robert Hood's classic The Pace. Firing percussion and insistent synth stabs set out the tone for Broom's latest release on ePM; on the second mix, the UK techno veteran uses a more gnarly bass and rasping hats to create a visceral sound. Truncate turns "Z Beats" into a linear, chord-heavy affair that tones down the intensity but doesn't lose sight of the club-friendly approach thanks to its snappy percussion and morse code tones. Rounding off the release and a hugely successful year for Broom is "Ot", a chord-heavy looped track.
